So I've wanting dreads forever it seems, but I've never done it, partially because of work, but my manager just said I could if I wanted to, so I'm planning on dreadin that mess up!
First off do you think my hair is Long enough?

It's kinda wavy so I do t think I'll have to much issue gettin it to dread, but at
This length would it just look silly?
Also, are you guys pro wax, or no wax?

Looks a very similar length to what I started with :) They're only at 8 weeks but doing great so far. I don't think they look silly, but it's going to be about how you feel with how they look on you. And dreads are always going to have times where they look a bit mental (last two days one of mine has been sticking straight out horizontally no matter what I do, I'm putting up with it but it's not my fav thing my hair has ever done haha). I've heard though that starting short means less shrinking, and it's probably easier to look after them, separate them, maintain them if you're doing any maintenance etc because there's less mess to get lost in.

Everyone here seems to be anti-wax, and I've heard a lot of horror stories so don't plan on ever using it. It doesn't seem like it would really help them get mature any quicker, it just glues the hair together but it won't form knots all that well if it can't move around.

Depends what you mean by silly! Depends how you do them too. If you backcomb theyll stick out everywhere. If you go neglect, they shouldnt stick out so much. Most dreads go through a sticky-outy phase.

Mine shrank a bit (my hair was probably twice as long as yours) but my hair also grows quickly so it wasnt really too noticeable.

Don't use wax - it glues the hairs together and stops movement. No movement = no friction = no knots = no dreads.

If you wanna go neglect you can start now. Just wash your hair once a week, don't use conditioner. Use something like doc bronners or t gel or something, and try not to run your fingers through your hair. Should get some knottyknots quite quickly!

In using dr. Bronners peppermint bar soap.
I'm back combing, but first I'm using this Bronners once a week and letting my hair get all the conditioner out of there I used to use
    Thanks for the reply
