First off, let me just say this ...

I was born a Christian, raised a Christian, and confirmed a Christian. I am no longer Christian.

That being said, my Christian parents and Christian family are very hypocritical. Example given: My father, an ex-Marine, is a child abuser. He calls a punch against him "assault," but he calls a punch from him against anyone else "discipline." He constaintly praises America, and democracy, and thinks that the entire world should be democratic. Then, when we've argued, I've said "you're a dictator of this house, you force yourself as the authority," and he said, "that's right, I'm the dictator, and you have to do as I say if you want to live in my house!"

That's one strike against Christianity: I have not seen a single Christian that practices the Bible without contradicting themselves.

The second strike against Christianity is the Bible itself. There are WAY too many direct contradictions in the Bible. Let me list just a few big ones for you:

    Contradiction #1: God and Anger

As you can see, God says he will not hold anger forever, and then he says that he will.

(By the way, for all of these contradictions, there are several verses that say both sides; for this one, there are 3 verses that show God doesn't hold anger forever, and there are 5 verses that show God does hold it forever. I am merely pulling out one from each side, for demonstration purposes.)

Contradiction #2: God and Omnipotence (All-power)

In this scenario, God "could not drive out" the valley dwellers, simply because "they had chariots of iron." In Genesis 18:14, God asks Abraham, "Is anything too hard for the Lord?" Apparently, home depot's trailers are mighter than God ...

Contradition #3: What to do with your enemies?

So, we are supposed to feed and provide drink to our enemies, and then kill them while they are eating? Doesn't sound like a very Christian thing to do.

    -----

This is another major reason why I do not believe in Christianity. If you go to http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.com, you will find a whole 363 -- yes, over three hundred -- similar contradictions. You will also find timeline absurdities, other irregularities, and among them, instances of cruelty, violence, aggression, and injustice.

The third and final blow to Christianity, for me, was my earlier childhood.

Back when I was still in confirmation classes for Christianity, my dad used to lose his temper often. He would often punch or kick me, or grab my hair and throw me around, and things like that.

After particularly heated arguments, I used to lay on my bed, and just cry, sometimes even for several hours, because of the psychological trauma.

When I would lay on my bed crying, I would often get off, and kneel at the side of the bed, and clasp my hands together, and pray to God, ask him for help, pray to him to intervene, with ALL of my heart, I would cry and pray for things to get better.

They got better, a little. But not because God did anything. I finally realized that it wasn't just discipline, it was abuse. So I called the police. And my dad, with the threat of going to jail, won't touch me again (though, he uses psychological warfare even more now; he sold MY car and bought a new one, but won't let me take that car up to college or over to certain friends' houses, because it's HIS car and not MINE, and he won't co-sign my college loans unless I do everything he asks, and if I disrespect him, he'll kick me out of the house).

My point is, I had a pretty shitty life. I prayed to God, and surrendered myself to him, and what was he doing? Probably sitting in a beanbag chair up in heaven, smoking a joint, and laughing at the TV.

These three strikes (and writing this whole post) bring me to this final conclusion:

GOD CAN SUCK MY BIG, FAT COCK.

If he does exist (which he doesn't), then I hate him for torturing me, I hate him for letting me down. There were only one set of footsteps in the sand, for my entire life, and it was always ME carrying myself, never HIM.

I would sooner die for the honour of Lucifer, the Light-bearer, than I would for that fucking bastard.

First of all, let me say that I believe He exists too. However, G-d's existence is not apparant - His Spirit isn't a tangible item, and there can never be any evidence that falls under the precept of being based on an absolute truth value.

Many of the people who *don't* believe in G-d desire just that kind of evidence... They find faith to be foolish, because it's building your life's structure around something you have no concrete evidence for. In other words, why adhere to set of limitations when we aren't even sure that there's "someone watching" or not?

This thought's crossed my mind as well, but in all honesty, the limitations imposed upon me aren't really that outrageous. I prolly have no business stepping outside those boundries anyways. ;)

Well done.....I have yet to find my personal religion or spirituality but i do know that anyone who will cast me into hell for being bisexual is not a holy and good being.....Anyone who states that if u dont do exactly as i say your going to hell is Nazi like thinking......Jews were put into kilns and non-god worshipping people will go to satans pits......Your GOD and Hitler are to similar for me to devote my life and my respect to. Also women are repeatedly disrespected and condemned in the bible.....Eve ate the sacred fruit and now we are casted out and taught shame of our bodies because of HER mistake...We also have regular periods for that reason ....Yes sopposedly that is a punishment to women for Eve's mistakes.....Mary magdaline was a whore and besides being jesus's whore she wasnt known for much else.....Other than Jesus's mother Mary i cant think of a female portrayed in a non negative light.....And at first she was too.(prior to gods sopposed apperance to Joseph)

I cant conceive of any entity(your god) that would create lesbians and gays just to banish/ridicule/and punish..... I guess he had to even out his heaven/hell ratio......

    Exactly.

One correction: Mary Magdaline was not a whore. She was Jesus' wife, of royal blood, the mother of their daughter, Sara(h). She was also one of the 12 apostles.

The lies of her whoredomship were spread by the Roman Catholic Church, to disassociate her from Jesus. They want Jesus portrayed in a "son-of-god" light, they want to escalate him to the pinnacle, the foremost echelon of all that is perfect and holy. To do this, they can't allow people to know that Jesus had sex with a woman, and that woman was his favourite apostle, and that the other apostles were jealous of this fact ... they covered it up.

Don't believe me? Read the dead sea scrolls for yourself. The other 106 "scrolls" -- or gospels -- that attested to this truth but weren't included in the Bible because they portrayed Jesus in a human light.

I suppose that is the fourth slash against Christianity that I have.

Actually, I neglected to address this part of your question ...

I think about the possibility of God all the time.

Problem is, there are so many gods which are all EQUALLY possible.

    Including Satan.

I remain a somewhat logically positivist agnostic; there is no indisputable objective evidence for the existance of a deity, and there is no indisputable objective evidence for the non-existance of a deity. Furthermore, there are no GOOD, complete, and thorough logical probabilities for the existance of God.

Thus, I tend to treat talk about the nature of God as complete nonsense -- impractical, and non-pragmatic.

Kind of like talking about how a unicorn would get along with a gnomish half-elf wizard whose body has been integrated into a prototype Russian exoskeleton weapons system guided via ionic solar-powered satellite ...

... well, you get my drift. There's no real purpose here. These things in all likelihood do not exist. And your subjective experiences can be explained by science, for the most part. It's just squandering time that could be put to better use.

Now here's the real question of morals: Do I sit here and let you waste your time babbling over nonsense, or do I give you as much wisdom as I can and encourage you to make your own decision? Or do I do the Christianly thing, and convert (or kill) all non-believers?

Convert or kill ... heh, that sounds a LOT like the bad guys from the Chronicles of Riddick ... the Necromongers ... from the Underverse ...

wow im truly amazed to hear someone my age talk as wise as you hikaru......Im not that familiar with the bible but i know enough to know its complete egomaniacal man written bullshit.....Speaking of bullshit .....I was watching the penn&teller show the other day and it got me thinking on why anyone would oppose evolution over creationism......atleast evolution makes since scientifically
Now children in pennsylvania i think it was our taught that evolution has many gaps and flaws where as creationism is more correct for the simple reason of "intelligent design" which is basically stating that life is to complex that there has to be a god or a higher power for this all to exist....
Nevermind the fact that we as humans over the centuries have contuned to evolve and adapt to our surroundings(Africans having darker skin to absorb sunlight) or the fact humans have a tail bone from what used to be a tail....

Regardless everyone should have the right to beleive what they want.....and i shun noone for their paticular beleifs.......Unlike morrison with his insanely bad grammar and attitude to boot

Now morrison since weve stated our very valid reasons for not buying into your bullshit id like for u to give me some scientific based knowlege of why u do beleive(and not because mommy and daddy told u to)

Thanks, but I'm really not all that wise. I just pay attention to detail, that's all. I try my best, and that's what everyone does (you included!).

    *shrugs*

I grew up in Pennsylvania, and I was taught evolution in science class, and religion in the church. I have no qualms with this. I was able to follow what made sense, and leave what didn't.

No! Impossible! God created African Americans as slaves to his followers! These black men are punished for their sins by being TAINTED by their sins, and thus are impure, and should do the bidding of God's rightful followers!

What a load of crap, right?

In 1st grade, I had a good friend named Jude, who was black. Him, and I, and Alex (another white boy) were good friends, and at the end of recess, we used to take turns -- two of us would carry the other on our shoulders back to the school doors. Those days were good times.

I grew up with a rascist /christian father.(who for some reason hated all blacks yet sent me to an all black school) I can remember this one guy Terrell who was always really nice and payed extra attention to me....We got close and my father found out...I mean we hadnt even kissed (i was 11 or so)But despite that he freaked....Beat me sinceless and continued to tell me that it was in the name of god.....how i was going to hell for seeing terrell as a beautiful person and not a n*igger(his words)

So i guess thats where my problems with christianity began....But it also made me the person i am today and if nothing else im greatful for that....

My take on this (to date so far) is that the "god" of religion is really a visitor from a technologically advanced civilisation from somewhere else in the universe who came with crew of subordinates who eventually spliced theirs and stone-age man or possibly chimpanzee, DNA, thereby creating the "first man." Zecharia Sitchin provides reasonably good material in this regard in his "Earth Chronicles" books.
For me that amply explains the gross traits of humanity and the paucity of the attribute that should identify the "true god" ~ Love.
Where is the Love? Where is the Love in the bible by which we can learn to be Loving? Where is the Love by which the supposed "god" demonstrates the Loving way of being, doing, and seeing? Where is the natural expression of Love in humankind? Absent.
I conjecture that the opposite of common religious belief is true ~ the "god" of religious worship is evil, while the true "god' (creator of universe & life) awaits recognition ( for those who seek will find etc etc). After all, and as I have stated so many times here in forum ~ The first liar in the bible is "god", while the first truth told to man is from satan; vis-a-vis Genesis 3.

Im being raised in a catholic family, and let me tell you, it sucks. my family is always giving their christian opinions and when i give mine, they yell at me and tell me to keep my opinions to myself. I have as much freedom to opinion as them. they always say you cant force someone to believe in god but they force me to go to church every fucking sunday. which all that does is make me resent them more. but i know there is some higher power because i can somewhat feel something fucking around with my life. especially when it comes to me buying weed.

either him, or kharma, or whatever is there. it is a jack ass. everytime i make plans that have to do with buying or doing weed. or buying shrooms, it never works out. usually i can get my weed 50% of the time and of all the times i plan to smoke it, 80% of time it falls through. everytime i try to buy shrooms, never happens. because people either call me but they call a wrong number, or i cant get a hold of them, or it rains, etc. im never bad to other people. im a good person. but this seems to happen to me much more than anyone else. fuck you god and leave me the fuck alone!

I dont say that a god, or several, dont exist
but all of the definitions of god that Ive heard so far dont seem realistic
Especially the one that is supposedly all knowing and all loving who will condemn his beloved people to a fiery inferno for not worshipping him.

I am GOD, as you are GOD, GOD IS EVERYTHING AND BEYOND THINGS FORMLESS. BEYOND CONCEPTS TOO! and I am beginning to know that I EXIST. I have been lied to by GOD in many forms about how I'm not God, that I'm a body and emotions and thoughts and a personality... that is part of GOD'S COSMIC JOKE. :) The leela, the divine dance we are dancing.

All the religions are fingers pointing to me, why get hung up on a finger, when you can realize ME!

God is another word for the one consciousness, I also call it divine mother, Self, Guru, and all kinds of things... Ram, Channel 3... it goes on and on...

Not only do I KNOW I EXIST through mystical knowledge and awareness... But quantum mechanics proves it.

Of course believeing (which is different then KNOWING through mysticsm) in a seperate intelligent creator that judges souls upon death that it controls totally through determinism, and sends them to permanant heaven and hells based on them cutting a deal with a jewish guy that went on a cross.

I'm into Jesus, but not the Jesus promoted by the fundies. The fundies present a message that RAPES JESUS RIGHT IN THE ANUS. It is evil evil evil evil.

Come on. I never even considered that for a second... not for one second... It is the work of maya, an element of the one concousness that leads those on the spiritual path into the illussion. Jesus called maya, satan.

It's ironic that the fundies are working for satan, but since satan works for God, it's all GOD, it's all good. Thus serve your dark prince my fundie friends serve him well, you do good work.
You might as well burn crosses fundies. It would be more true to the spirit of what you are about. :)

The man that does not know the prince of darkness is but the other face of the king of light, does not know ME!

It is horribly beautiful, the destructive force of God is at one with the preserving is at one with the creating.

Without suffering we can not know the joy that is beyond suffering... for every planet as messed up as ours, there is a planet with all kinds of playful joy... It all balances out in all the planets and universes and astral planes... and it is all US, ALL the "I AM" we share.

We get lost in all these movies, and suffer, suffer horrible deaths, experience horrible lives, and experience joyful lives, experience comfortable deaths... and so on and so forth... THe one consciousness, who we are, wills all this. Nothing can escape its will.

When the GanjaPrince's movie is bad, the GanjaPrince gets angry at God sometimes, sure... That happens...

But behind that, in the GP's darkest hour is ME. I AM

    "Pain and pleasure
    loss and gain
    fame and shame
all the same" - Ram Dass

    life's a game.

So I would suggest working out a deal with God aka the one consciousness, whatever you want. to have yourself a good movie...

But even if you do work it out and have a good movie, GOD, who you really ARE, has to live out all the movies.

    We do it to ourselves.

IT IS SO ABSURD, all you can do is laugh. it is a cosmic joke. Realize it HERE AND NOW!

With this laugh comes unbearable compassion. Because nobody cares. No Body, that which is beyond the body, the trasdent aspects of the one consciousness cares and have compassion for all the sufferings of form.

PS: God is DOG spelled backwards
