We always complain about ''big brother'' and we get all paranoid about how they are monitoring us and watching us, yet we turn around and put every detail of our lives on the internet, take pictures and videos of everything that happens, and make this information readily available to anyone who wants to have a look. We film cops at riots, crimes, arguments, events, everything. Big brother doesn't need to force anything onto us - we are all doing it ourselves.
To be fair, I think you have been watching too many Facebook adverts. According to those adverts we are and we should put our entire lives online and on a timeline. Most people actually only put a fraction of their lives online. It is true, some people do seem to provide too much information. But even those people I would say do not put every aspect of their lives online. It is likely it is only the aspects they would share in the real world - with other people. Social media allows more people access to more information - true. But that information is only a reflection of an aspect of our lives we can't formally share in the real world - because we are not physically connected. We perhaps have more 'friends' we share with we would not have if the Internet was not around. Have you not just shared part of you with me? I do not complain about 'Big Brother' - I consider 'Big Brother' to be an aspect of a rather boring book. I hope that makes some sense. Just sharing
filming cops at riots serves an incredibly important purpose in limiting the powers of the police state, i would have said. but aye, Huxley probably had it better than orwell; we're going to be imprisoned by things we love not things we hate, build ourselves a gilded cage. i see this more as an indictment of a consumer society than of the police state. i don't think that its actually anything near as bad as all that, the inter-connected society and unprecedented dissemination of information has great benefits as well as pitfalls.
Basically, all this shit was given to us and promoted as "cool" and "normal" to acclimate people to the loss of personal privacy, relinquishing their private lives and putting all their personal information online. It's all about this new age we are entering into, where privacy becomes a thing of the past. But you are right, people are playing into this and allowing what is happening to happen. But it was done intentionally. It's easy to manipulate people and get them to do what you want.
What kind of personal information? Are you talking about online banking? My TV licence? My cable bill? My tax records? I don't put any of that on my Facebook account.
They can know all they want about me, I got nothing to hide, except a couple of buds but thats easily dealt with. In a way, I think it makes it easier for us to find out about them. Although most of it is labelled as conspiracy... But if someone moans about big brother knowing their shit, then they shouldnt publicly post it. I dont use my real name online, not for any particular reason...then saying that, I use a different name on my driving liscense to my birth certificate which is different to my online name.. really dont know why. I'm not scared of big brother, or whoever it is, they should be fearing us!
if the police wanna find out information about you there are for more efficient ways to go about it without looking through all your facebook albums. if your doing anything that would concern the police and your doing it on facebook then your not the sharpest tool in the shed. be more concerned about facebook selling your personal information likes/dislikes to companies so they market their shit at you.
It still acclimates people to a mindset that it's OK to put out your personal information, be it online or otherwise. It's more of a conditioning tool than anything. But don't think the government doesn't keep track of what people are saying on Facebook to gauge public opinion and formulate propaganda around it. Trust me, Facebook is a very powerful tool of the powers that be to keep tabs on what the general public is thinking. It just is. I mean, it is pretty well obvious that Facebook is a government tool that has proven links to the CIA, various NGOs and government think tanks.
When ordinary citizens post movies of the police and other authorities running amok, that is not "Big Brother". It is the opposite. Exposing this behavior helps preserve our civil liberties. An example is what happened at the Univ of California during the Occupy protests. The widespread viewing of the video of the use of pepper spray during a constitutionally protected protest led to It is a personal choice to be on Facebook. No one is forcing you to. I choose not to be on Facebook.
(not: does serve on) (again, not: does serve on) If that is: 'Proven links with the CIA' then it's grasping at straws.
