Pretty simple question. I think that no matter how much us stoners try to deny it, marijuana is indeed a gateway drug. It does make you curious about other things and sometimes try other things. I tried drinking because of weed and also have thought about trying various other things. Discuss.
NO nothing can 'make you' curious curiousity is a trait, it dictates your responses, it is not a response in itself
no unless you mean a gateway to getting off of everything from pills to alcahol it was my gateway to getting away from all that..for good i could say it most likely saved my life
yeah, i was the first asshole who voted yes. mainly because I've known plenty of people who liked certain aspects of weed and tried other things due to wanted more of those feelings. ex. my friend mildly hallucinates when blazed, and he tried shooms and acid to get more of this. I'm not saying that shrooms or acid are anything like weed, but I'm saying that he thought the mild hallucinogenic effects were cool and wanted something more, and thought shrooms and acid would be the same only stronger. we were young and stupid, but either way... I'm not saying it forces you to try other drugs, but I do think it makes you curious. tell me I'm stupid, but thats what I think. I love weed, but if you're so stuborn to deny that it does NOTHING to make you want more (for some people, that is) then you're just plain stupid and haven't seen much. At the same time, it can do the opposite. It helped me quit smoking (ciggs) and helped me slow down my drinking.
I voted no. I do believe it leads to the use of other drugs, but only because it is illegal. The fact that it's illegal means that you have to come in contact with people who are selling other, more dangerous drugs. Sooner or later, you will be tempted by those other drugs and end up trying them. If weed wasn't so demonized by society, then people would look at it like they look at alcohol.......just a way to relax and have fun and we'd be able to buy it at the store, instead of having to come in contact with all of the other shit. So, no, weed isn't a gateway drug. Prohibition is the gateway to other drugs.
several of the most widely used and respected herbology refferece books list canabis as a cure for boredom.. if it was legal, it would end boredom. when people get bored and cant get weed at the local convienience store they get whatever they can find at the time usualy this is alcahol..alcahol is the more likely gateway to harder drugs and addictiveness in general.. while pot may possibly be a gateway to psychodelics in some a gateway is only a path that leads somewhere only if you chose to go there.. the true gateway is not a drug but a personal choice or experience which leads you to try new things the only gateway is the gateway in your mind.. but once you step through it into the realm of adiction and adictive substances you start to feelthe draw towards more destructive drugs and get into that 'whatever you can get your hands on' mindset
well... gateway.. yes, to the weed High. then the connection is made in the brain. the connection is varried, we can theorize, as varried as everyone's own persona. but general reactions do occur, mostly yes I like it therefore I either get stuck with it or try even more. or no I don't like it as much. your choice.
Well, I think people are naturally curious about drugs. Weed is just usually the most accesible and the least intense so it's an easy one to start with I guess it is a gateway drug in a way though...so I vote yes.
If someone's gonna do other drugs, then they are gonna do them regardless of whether or not they smoke weed. It just so happens that a lot of people who are curious about drugs in general try weed first and then other things. That does not make it a gateway drug.
i think a person is just born more inclined to try drugs or not, just like a personality thing. but smoking pot can lead to you finding people who can get other drugs i guess.
tns makes a good point, but for the same reason I say yes and no. I just bought mushrooms cuz my dealer had em, and for no other reason. But I never even would have concidered or had the option if I was not smoking weed. Therefore the definition of gateway drug, leading to other drugs, is met. Also I doubt I would have done E if I hadnt been smoking.... and I got that from a completely different person (at work, still related to weed) so basically you cant have a diffinative answer to this ?
IMO alcohol is THE gateway drug. honestly, how many of u got stoned the first time before you got drunk the first time?
Me. I didn't have my first sip of alcohol until I was 18 and had already been smoking for about 3 years. Alcohol sucks.
