I'm a guy, and even though I'm not gay I am sort of an activist for gay rights - if you can consider coming up for gay people as something that classifies me as a type of an activist.

Do you all think that it's weird?

Nope. There is nothing weird about it at all.

Yet, a few other guys may disagree, in particular, if they grew up in a homophobic environment, which thaught them that being 'straight' meant hating gay guys...

There is nothing at all weird with fighting for equal rights.

If only more people understood the meaning of the word "ALL"...

  5. If you know that it's natural and know why, etc. Then it's not weird. I mean, it's not really weird anyway, but you should have your positions figured out. Which I assume you do.

Nothing weird about standing up for what's right.

Not weird at all to stand up for the rights and human dignity of any group, whether you identify with that group or not.

In Nazi Germany, some Germans risked their own lives to assist Jews.
In the U.S. many whites fought and died trying to get civil rights for blacks.

So, to stand up for gay ppl's rights is just the honorable thing to do for any conscientious person.

Besides, if you are young never discount what you may someday discover about your own sexuality. ;)

You may be insuring a better future for yourself.

There are many straight people who stand up for gay rights- here in England Ken Livingstone is one such person.

I guess it should be mentioned that here in the States (and hopefully elsewhere) the schools now have Gay-Straight Alliances, an extra curricular support group.

By including gays and straights it takes off some of the hate focus, plus increases the numbers. Sorta lets the haters know there is support for gays in the schools AND no one can really easily identify the gay ppl because they belong to a group.

    Great idea!

You forgot a little U.S. history here.

It was oppression by the cops that caused the Stonewall riots in New York City in 1969. Homosexuality was known as sodomy and a crime against nature in the 20th Century (up into the 21st) and people were sent to prison. The Nazi's killed homosexuals along with Jews and others. So, oppression of homosexuals is not new.

Really? and yet in the title and the first line you had to emphasize to us that you arent gay.

You have to get past the very first step if you are to get a clue, and that step is, if you say you are straight - then prove it. Yes that is the most important thing, its this pretend bullshit half of "straight" guys do that is the most annoying thing

I think the point he was trying to make is that he is standing up for the rights of a persecuted group to which he doesn't identify.

You shouldn't read so much into this post just because of your past experience with closeted or hypocritical ppl.

There are truly str8 ppl in the world and the more of them that ally with gays because of purely philosophical reasons such as civil rights for all, the better it will be.

That's true Shale, I do it more because of the fact that there is such a thing as human rights, and not necessarily because I am part of the gay group.

I don't think so, I won't be going to a parade anytime soon but if I had even a slight reason to go I'd come out and support.
