I was taking a walk outside (with my camera, of coarse!), on a path up the mountain, I came across this: http://www.deviantart.com/view/10585854/ my comment @ deviant: "This was the weirdest mushroom I've ever seen, and I believe it's very rare. So I had to put it up. I pocked it a bit (It was all squishy...ewww...), with a stick ,of coarse. and after I broke the skin, some spore (I think.Y'know the powdery stuff?) came flying out, and it started ' bleeding' brownish green goo (eww), It then had this iron smell that mushrooms have. I wouldn't recomend eating these spikey things...." So...uhh....anybody know these evil 'shrooms?
I used to live in the woods, so I had the Audbons (spelling?) Field Guide to Mushrooms and it had every classified mushroom in it, but that's back at my house...too bad because then all your questions would be solved.
They're everywhere around here. Don't mess with those... they're angel puffballs or something... at least that's what they call them around here. They're supposedly deadly.
http://www.nifg.org.uk/edible_fungi.htm I think I just found your magical shroom, it looks like its on the list of edible shrooms? I woudn't try though. :0) :/ I saw this fluerescant purple one when I was working at this children's summer camp in Pennsylvania. Still trying to figure that one out. Nazca
I see those all the time here, once it gets more mature (ripens I guess... ) if you poke it it will just let out a greenish brown cloud... I use to throw them at stuff when I was younger... Don't think it's edible....
Best match in my 'sroom book is to the Gem-studded Puffball. According to it, edibility is choice when the mushroom is "young and white internally". I wouldn't eat it myself though.
