I'm not one to answer newb questions sarcastically, or to be tough on new kids for the hell of it. But, tough dreadie love is a good way to weed out the weak minded ones that may not be cut-out for locks. If you can't handle a battle of wits with your dreadie peers, how will you make it in the real world with locks? On, the other hand, it is a cruel world out there. This should be somewhere where dreadies can feel at home and welcome. What's your opinion on this hotly debated subject?

I have been a member here for almost 10 years now, under a few different usernames. When I first joined, this was a supportive, accepting community that focused on making people feel welcome.
Over the last few years, especially the last year, the welcoming spirit of this forum has turned into a sarcastic, rude, opinionated vibe that is scaring away members. I do not like the path this community is taking.

Everyone needs to read the rules and follow them, especially:

quote: #5: "One thing about connecting together as a community on-line is that, communication can be turned and manipulated so easy. Simply from not even having much tone or expressions to work with. None the less- we have to be conscious that other people are not thinking on the same page as you are.. which is important for us to recognize, and intern use communication in where each individual feels equal and satisfied.
We are here to learn and help us guide each other from our differences.
In this forum I would like us to all be conscious that everyone helps us on your personal growth and learning….. and to embrace others opinions.

Now in saying this.. it is important to give forth your opinion so it can he herd and recognized for its self. Its also important to be able to freely ask the questions one desires to ask with out a hassle.

So can I ask all of you…..that when u feel you need to voice something out, write it where you get to say what you want to say but don’t offend other’s.."

    I agree with bcmama
but, I do think sometimes people are overly sensitive. When someone makes a post saying "what do you think about my dreads?" and someone writes that they don't like them or 'pass' etc, they're just being honest, not attacking. The question isn't "everyone who likes my dreads post here!" I wouldn't want everyone kissing my dready ass about how great my dreads are if they don't really think that. If someone thinks my locks are shit feel free to tell me!
and I know that I've written before that people should be nicer to noobs- but some of the recent noob questions/threads have been so random and silly that it's hard not to post sarcastic responses.

I think theres a point in a dready's journey where we think we know all the answers and think the questions are silly, and obvious. We've just gotta remember we were all noobs once, remember some of the questions you asked when you began your journey.

I think, now, all the simple questions are covered in the stickies, so we should direct all new threads that have those questions in to the stickies?

I think people just get pissed off with answering the same old questions. There is a clear search bar that is there to avoid repetitive threads so I think it's pretty rude and ignorant not to use that. I lol at the silly fights that go on. I definitely don't think it's too harsh in most cases, sometimes people can just be A holes to one another but it depends.

I understand that everyones going to have an opinion on things, for example a new members hair, fair play that you might not be the greatest fan of their hair or method but I think a more constructive approach could be taken in venting disaproval? the members of this board, for the most part are well informed/educated/intellectual, how ever you want to pitch it - the board has alot of wisdom, that'll sum it up, so I know the members are more than capable of replying in a fashion thats not going to deprive them of their freedom to express their opinion but still make it fair, new members don't know the characters on the board, so in their introduction post if someone with x'hundred+ post count comes and gives them a hard time I think thats a little rough.

But this is obviously my opinion that I wouldn't want to forcefully impose on others.

Noobs who keep spamming pictures of their dreads 1 day at a time seeking praise though, I think they're fair game to rough up though >.<

I think this is an online forum and no matter what... what';s gonna happen is going to happen.

NOt too long ago ( two months I guess) there was controversy in every thread over SE adn there were posts about how to keep the peace. And now it's something else.

The only thing to do about it is to continue using the forums the way you want to see others use htem. Lead by example I suppose. Not that it will change anything.

If you see yet another thread by a newbie that asks the same old questions and you know that it will annoy you...here's an idea: don't read it, don't answer it. If you don't have the patience to answer noob questions in a helpful manner, then just avoid those threads. Pretty simple...

No, I don't take internet forums too seriously...but I am serious about treating people with respect and communicating in a non-offensive manner.

Not to mention that somewhere along the line the dreadlock forum became RT part two.
I myself would love to see an off-topic personal forum for non-dread related banter. Been more than a few times I've popped by and page one had more to do with random chatter than dreadlocks.
