I mean really what is it that we really have to have in order to survive?, then what is it we need in order to live life? (beyond just basic need) what is it we need to be comfy? and last what is it we need to be happy? For some the ansewre will be the same for all, some will be different for each.
Everyone needs the basic food suplies and water to survive. Goals to be happy. They have to reach goals from time to time to be comfortable.
beyond food water n shelter... a couple warm blankets would be nice.. happiness within yourself... not easy but once you achieve it .. i personally feel all your needs are met
to survive: food - water - sleep to be comfortable (to exist): shelter - clothing - luxuries to be happy (to live): freedom - purpose - a defined sense of self I have theorized on this a fair bit. my theory is that you are essentially in one of three phases of life; you either survive, exist, or live. if you're trying to survive, the bare necessities will do. you have to fill your stomach and get some sleep, a secondary goal would be to try and get out of survival mode and onto one of the other two phases. most people are content to exist. this is the worst phase, in my opinion, and here you need shelter from the discomfort of nature and its whims, clothing to keep you warm and protected, and luxuries. luxuries come in many, many forms, and they are what tricks people who simply exist into believing that they are happy. which is why so many people who "have everything" are/become deeply unhappy or depressed. then there is life. to live. to be happy. I believe to be happy you must be free. by freedom, I mean freedom from worry and concern, freedom to go your own way and live your life the way you wish. freedom can be broadly defined, and I'm sure each person's definition is their own, but to be happy, you need to have freedom, however you define it. next is purpose. ambition, goals, direction, whatever you want to call it, it is vital that you have a purpose in your life, something to work towards, if you want to be happy. and finally, a defined sense of self. by this I mean knowing who you truly are - your values, your boundaries, your beliefs, your preferences; your identity. having a well-defined sense of self will breed confidence and security, and it will make all your other wants and needs clearer and easier to achieve. this is the most important one. figuring out who you really are is the first step to true happiness. I have left love out, because I believe it is not necessary to be happy. love is a luxury, and will help you be comfortable, and might help you be happy. but you do not need it. thanks for posting this thread. in writing all this out, I've made a couple of new realizations for myself.
to survive: food, water, a shelter, money to be comfortable: a comfortable house, net connection, phone... to be happy: love, a good career, free time, hobbies, friends...
breathable air first. depending on ambient conditions either shelter or water next. after those, something to eat once in a while. once survival is secured, gratification in some form, generally requiring, involving, or satisfied by, exploratory and or creative activities. of course, being surrounded by a society of one's peers, or even other members of ones species, while to a degree facilitating survival, also further complicates it, by requiring certain rituals of dignity such as clothing and other matters of grooming and adornment. =^^= .../\...
Besides the obvious stuff like food, water and air I think we also need a will, friendship and freedom.
My basic needs would have to be self-happiness and love... Yes, I said love... And I am not going to name the obvious...
happiness and love and shit are not basic needs. food, water, air to breathe, warmth/protection from elements, and sex.
