I only read the first post in that thread. It's called elimination communication, and doesn't exactly fit in with my parenting philosophy. Works great for some Mamas. I'm just not the sort to sit my baby on the toilet every so often and wait for her to eliminate her wastes. Changing diapers isn't a big deal to me, and I kinda like doing laundry. No, I really like doing laundry, I'll admit it.

i've heard about this, i even know a few people who have done it. i say kudos to those people, i am definately not one of them. i dont have the patience for that. but i can imagine how much easier it would be in the long run.

I think EC is great if it fits in well with your family dynamics. I did EC with my first for awhile. IMO, it's alot of work simply because it's not part of our culture.

I think in a society where we're continously pushing our children to grow up faster and faster, I find the thought personally disturbing.

I do it part-time with Moire. It's not that I have tons of time, or want her to grow up more quickly, She just HATES wet diapers. And watching for her pee-pee face, which gets so much easier over time, is a lot less trouble than changing a screaming babe.

i think if you research it a bit you'll find the families who practice ec to be very gentle, loving families who are just striving to be a part of every aspect of their baby's lives :)

i think ec is super great as it helps baby and mom get connected even more and helps mom to get even more in tune with her child.

ec is the norm in 3rd world countries. i think we can learn alot about parenting from folks who live in places of that sort :)

I think most people in third world countries would use diapers if they could afford to.

Why? Diapers are inconvenient, wasteful, and actually MORE time consuming than full-time EC.

PS. I DO diaper part-time, but I've come to value my ECing as a mind-saving convenience.

i agree with this to a certain extent. they would probaby try them but find they are time consuming and odd. plus that would seriously alter their culture. there would be less of a need to be on the same wavelength as your child and the mothers may feel less connected. that would be sad :(

so, i agree they may try them but would opt not to use them on a regular basis. i mean why would someone CHOOSE to do more laundry when water and soap is a limited resource?

my first take is that it's kind of odd. It doesn't really seem all that bad, though. I don't know, I guess it's ok. Not something I ever thought of, though. Although I have been wondering lately about how "they used to" deal with baby poop. Hmm...I'll probably think about this for awhile...

I don't know if I can tell when Abryn has to pee...How do you tell? I'm thinking of trying this maybe...

i wanted to add that it's fun to learn about and try new things like this. i'm super glad we tried ec with my oldest. it gave me some insite about thw world of elimination that i'd have never known about and it made potty learning easy on her part since she'd been using the toilet since 8 months :)

so you can do it later than four months? cuz that article said not to eventry if your baby was four months or older...I'll go to mdc and look it up.

i'm not a mama, but i think it's a great idea because for one it saves resources and two I believe it brings you closer to your baby. if you can actually know when your baby is going to pee that must take close ties between mama/baby and papa/baby. this is prolly hard, but if you work at it i'm sure it can work.

i think that the parents who do this are awesome and great for them i was going to try and potty train my son but i was just too emotion and going through all the postpartum bs so i was just barely getting throuhg with breastfeeding and all. but as i said before hooray for the mamas that do this

Tamee, I started late, which is partly why, imo, we didn't fully succeed. EC would be easier from the start but we still did good. We basically just did night time. I say start now wither you booger and see where it takes you :)
