What do you think of Philosophers and Philosophy? Arrogant wankers talking about nothing? Burnt out stoners in a psychosis? An important area of academic study?
It depends who says it my degree I'm doing is a double-major, and of the majors is philosophy so if the wrong person starts trying to "philosophise" like a stoner oh how it makes my blood boil
It makes me think of numerous things. 1. It makes me think of sixth form where I plan to take Philosophy as an A level. 2. It makes me think of stoners and Relayer. 3. It makes me think of Harry Potter and the Philosophers stone. 4. It makes me think of different views and outlooks on life (this should probably be no.1). 5. It makes me think of a lilac purple.
^That is true as fuck, a philosopher who doesn't want to hear other types of peoples philosophy already thinks he/she is right and therefor would be a bore to philosophize with. That is like a scientist saying fuck God, when what he is doing is a godly thing, technology is a god in a way, one of many, which are to be appreciated. If not wtf do you think YOU are doing? Boil your blood and go make blood pudding. EDIT : I always forget to respond to the OP. When I hear the word philosophy I see and image of me old and crotchety with glasses and a stick waving it around laughing my ass off at all the different points of view that are so apparent on just one silly subject, like time, when you think you understand it you see a post about a dudes torso being gone and having no sense or comprehension of what time is, then you really start to think. That is philosophy to me.
lol, you completely misunderstood so calm down firstly I'm not a philosopher, I've studied one year of it, that hardly qualifies me Secondly I was mainly referring to the types of people who would say "If everyone would just smoke weed then there would be world peace" and generally have not even a trace of an original thought and fuck being a cook, I skip meals just so I can avoid it, no way would I cook for other people
Oh, I just thought someone who was majoring.... oh, one year. Being a cook would be dope, especially with boiling blood.
It was mostly just introduction stuff, one course was brief overview of plato, aristotle, hobbes, kant, hume, nietzsche, a few others and then marx vs darwin, another course was on god, mind & freedom and then another was on philosophy of science I start my 2nd year in February so thats when I'm going to do all the good stuff
I think the world of them. They are without a doubt the most humble of influences. You don't need to read far to realize that the reason these dudes change the world in the most practical and fundamental of ways.
dude, my philosophy.. and you can disagree with me if you will, but my philosophy on philosophy is that you are one degree or no degree, and a true philosopher will take responsibility for the things he/she says because that is how they feel and they know words still don't encompass a feeling and if you feel wrong then tell me you feel that way, don't blame it on a an amount of time you have been studying it, fuck it I am lost, enjoy your day
Is it time, experience and dedication that make one a philosopher? It certainly isn't a piece of paper in the form of a certificate.
