In all my years of watching countless sci-fi shows and movies, it never crossed my mind that space had a smell to it. Seems it does. NASA Astronauts Describe Cosmic Scent More: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/22/what-does-space-smell-like_n_1691642.html
For the most part space is a vacuum , so something from space only has a smell when it is in breathable air . desert rat
Being a vacuum, space itself can't actually have a smell, but after reading the link, I guess the things that travel through the vacuum import something to the material floating in space. Odd, lol
I think that's just the inside of their spaceship they can smell...Outer space really smells like maple syrup waffles...
interesting: Ive always thought space would smell like hydrogen. or welding gassed. maybe like Agron too.. metallic and dry.
Space smells like God's farts... And when She created our universe, She had the runs real bad. So bad, it's still being flushed down the black holes. That's what happens when your dumps are infinite...
After reading the article, I'm pretty sure what they're smelling is the exterior of their own spaceship giving off particles due to the activity of cosmic rays and other phenomena. So of course it's going to smell metallic, like welding fumes. If they were to just be floating in space and get picked up by something that wasn't metallic, there might not be any smell. It could also be from microscopic space dust, since there is so much metal existing in our solar system (lots of iron around our part - the core of our planet for example). If they were orbiting a gas giant like Saturn the smell would be different in that part of the solar system. (Their restaurants don't smell like steak!)
yes, I was thinking this also.. As the ships cargo hold could be exposed to open space. however, in order for the astronaut to breath. vacuum and pressure has to be adjusted to sustain life. As well pure oxygen will create a metal taste in the mouth..
