Just the other day, me and this one guy got into a little dispute about the music he listens to. At first I was looking through his iPod: The Killers, My Chemical Romance, Katy Perry, etc., and was pretty unsatisfied with what I was seeing.

"My Chemical Romance is the best band in the world," he said.

That was it; everyone on the bus knew what was going to happen. I then got into a long speech about real music: The Beatles, The Who, Led Zeppelin, etc. Can you believe this? The next thing he told me was that Led Zeppelin bored him.

I wasn’t going to diss his opinions but come on, I doubt he even tried listening to Led Zeppelin. You know, GET THE LED OUT!

Then it made me think: What happened to real music? Music with soul. Music that made you love. Music with real talent blaring through the speakers, you know?

I’m a freshman in high school. I don’t have a cell phone, MySpace/Facebook, or even an iPod, and I’m proud to say it. You know what I have? I have my home phone, my bass guitar, and my turntable, and I get along perfectly fine.

I still have faith in music though. I believe that music is on hiatus right at the moment, and that all it needs is another Jimi Hendrix or another Lennon. All it needs is one person to give it a kick in the ass.

Perhaps, TangerineMountain, the groups/people you like are the diamonds amongst the rough (of their time).
Good grief, when all of those guys were around there was also endless dross.
Perhaps you do need to open your world up to more music.
If you can sit here and say: What happened to music - then I think you have been living in a cucoon.

You guys are right. I really need to be more open-minded, but I just wish other people would be too.

There sure are a LOT of music I don't like and I'm not afraid to tell people that either.
I'm just not narrow minded enough to call people that play music I don't like "untalented".

I just got kind of mad at him when he told me that Led Zeppelin bored him, but yeah, people have their own opinions and I should respect them.

I didn't say LZ bored me, TangerineMountain's friend said that.
I'm not a massive massive fan though.

Yeah, maybe you should go on Pandora.com and use that. It will recommend a lot of new music to you. I agree that the music he was listening to is absolute shit, but there are a lotta great bands out there from the 70s to today, most of them just went underground except for the 70s (and the early 90s). PS- you sound pretty cool avoiding myspace and everything. I wish there were people like you when I was a Freshman in highschool ;).

Yes its a matter of opinion to some degree but music now mostly sucks ass. Those bands you listed suck plain and simple. The reason music isnt as good now is bc rock n roll has no SOUL. These bands just dont write and play with soul!
