I took my cats in as babies, the one in question looked like a runt, but an adorable runt, but he tries to nurse on my face, which is weird. I've been a pet owner my entire life, especially with cats, but after three months he's still always trying to stick his tongue in my head, in one place or another, and it's annoying. It's all the time, and it's gross b/c 1) he tries to stick it in my mouth, or wherever, all the time and 2) he eats bugs! My other kitten doesn't do it. What the hell. He only responds to me, and only does it to me. So what? I wanna snuggle him, but he won't ever stop! What's up? I can't go to sleep with a kitten nursing on my face! Help!

    Any words of wisdom?

Hmm--that does sound strange! How old are the cats? If they're really young (younger than 8 weeks), they could have been taken from their mom before they were weaned from nursing with her--and that could explain why the little one wants to nurse on your face--but I'm no animal behaviorist, so I don't know for sure--my best advice would be to take the little guy to the vet and see what they say! I kind of know what that's like, though--when my little sister and I were younger, we had this cat named TC, and he liked to nibble on our earlobes (he also liked to ride in the car)--but he did that as his way of telling us he loved us--at least that's what I like to think anyway! :) But seriously, have him checked out--there's gotta be some underlying reason for his behavior! Peace!

he's around 4 months. He was supposively 6 weeks when I got him but he was soooo tiny people told me they think the owners lied about his age. Waiting to be paid so I can take him to the vet. I love the little bastard but damn!! I can't even have him in my room anymore without being woken up with a cat in my mouth!! I swear he's in love with me! lol.

I've met several cats that do this (one of them being my own). I've asked the vet and other owners of these cats. The vet told me that if the cat was away from its mother too early than it will likely continue the habit it's whole life. I've never met a cat that's grown out of this, but it's also not that irregular or dangerous in any way.

  8. Yeah, you're his mother substitute. Be proud he feels that you can fulfil this role. ;) You could try aversion therapy - cover your face in something he really doesn't like until he gets the message

Is it normal for them to attach to one person? I'm the only one he'll do this to, and I'm also the only one who can call him to me and he'll follow.

  10. You'll have to teach him to use the litter tray as well, (hopefully not by example) Seriously, love him for who he is, he sounds adorable.

It can be symptomatic of a kitten that was weaned too early (and yes, even if he's got a sibling who doesn't do it, individual temperament varies), but also of a nutritional defeciency. For the first? Try treating for anxiety with something like Feliway. (There's some evidence that supports aromatherapy type stuff, but as sensitive as cats are to respiratory infection, I'd be careful in what I used and how I used it; find a good naturopathic vet with good behaviorist credentials). On the second? Look at your food and consider switching, to another formula if it's not a great food or if it is, try a different main ingredient in case he's not digesting that one as well as could be.

My sisters Kitty Binx does it. He does it to the other cats though, tries to get milk off them. Its kind of weird, but the other cats don't seem to mind. Funny thing is they are all boys...

Absolutely nothing is wrong with your cat. That's very natural cat behavior. The cat was probably just taken away from the mother a bit early, but it will stop doing the licking thing over time.

Cats eat bugs, it's just something that they do.

I am really surprised that you're not aware of these things, considering your experience with cats.

he did not spend enough time with the mother, we had one that sucked our earlobs, sat on our shoulder and did that all the time, as she became older she stopped, but she always sucked her blanket, the vet said she must have been taken from the mother too early, or the others where stronger and she didnt get enough attention.

i spoke to soon. like after one week after i posted this, i woke up to my kitten sucking on my hand with his eyes closed! i was like nooooooo! but i know why he did it. firstly he was 8 weeks old on sunday. i got him in november toward the begining so he was really young. if i leave extra dry food for him at night he wont suck on my hand. the vet told me to leave out extra food through the night so that way he can munch on that. also, he has now started to sleep next to me. lol
