I was thinking about whether peoples posts and replies, and the length and content of them, are based on their ability to type effectively. I suppose that those who type two handed-ten fingered, would most likely be apt to elaborate on many subjects, while the hunt and peck approach could limit ones posts to one liners or perhaps just a few. Do many people learn to type on their own when they discover the internet ? I learned in high school, through hours of practice! How do you type, and how does it affect your Hip Forum posts. ????
I took 1 typing class in high school, and even though both pinkies were broke when I was in first grade & stopped growing I passed the class even though my pinkies don't reach the keys. Actually most of the time I do the "hunt & peck" method of typing now.
I began by the hunt & Peck method. I do edit as I type, but I've gotten pretty good at visualizing where the keys are. In fact, I'm looking at my keyboard as I type. I'll get a speed on it someday. But I did learn what the HOME-Row, and the two HOME heys are.
Some days I can type paragraphs at a time without even glancing at the keyboard...maybe because I've added 'backspace' to my home row. But then again, some days I have to look at each letter as I type it. I had a typing class in high school, and one day I maxed out at around 57 wpm. I don't think I could ever match that though.
I type like a secretary... two hands without looking at the keyboard. Fastest in my 9th grade class back in the day
I can type really fast and without looking at the keyboard. I had one typing class in high school, but I don't use the "proper" method of typing. My hands are all over the place instead of keeping my hands on the home row.
I'm a keyboarder! not a typist! Ha! Ha! Seriously though I took typing in HS and that skill was a god send when computers came along. Nowadays they call it "Keyboarding." Bustramp
well i took typing in school and i used to play the piano, so i can type fairly fast. plus i have long nimble fingers ^_^ which is why i tend to post long posts
I type really weird. My hand on the left is does not wander around much . Right hand is doing hunt and pick.
i never really thought i used the home row but i guess that's where i start and where i rest my fingers when i'm not typing... i use mostly two fingers but if a different one can reach a key faster i use that. it's hard to type about typing x___x. i took keyboarding, but i didn't need it. i'd been a nerd for years. i usually got around 85 words per minute. i was good enough that my teacher gave up on trying to teach me how to do it "right". and i guess my posts are pretty long, but it doesn't have much to do with typing... they're as long as they need to be.
I can type about 75-80 words per minute, but i'm sure if i typed the right way then i'd type a lot slower. by the way prismatism, i like your sig quote. i love nirvana
I type really really fast (playing keyboard has helped) and I usually type out everything in my head without really thinking (I've forgotten what this is called), I just let it all come out. Then I go back and edit everything I've put about 10 times because I'm such a perfectionist. =3
I always use home row unless i'm eating...or talking on the phone. I'm really fast typer. I learned how starting in third grade, so that's most likely why. I dont think it really matters what method you use, my mom works a job where she's typing pretty much all the time and she uses hunt and peck.
I am a touch typist. Learned to type that way in 1968 (on a Hermes manual portable typewriter). By the time I was 11 I was able to calculate vertical centering as well as manage columnar typing. Last time it was clocked, I averaged about 75 wpm. My spelling is pretty average, I often times use a spell check. I keep a dictionary nearby. And I also speak the way I write.
