I love reading non-fiction. My favorite biography: Hammer of the Gods (about Led Zeppelin) Favorite environmental non-fiction: Legacy of Luna by Julia Butterfly Hill
Well, I pretty much only read fiction. The genre, time period or author don't matter much to me as long as the book is philosophical and intelligent. There are some fantasy, science fiction, classics, modern fiction like that... It's all good. Some of my favorite are: The Picture of Dorian Gray - Wilde The Idiot - Dostoyevsky The Alchemist - Coelho The Neverending Story - Ande Discworld - Pratchett Master and Margarita - Bulgakov
My favorite is Sci-fi, but i'm really into any fiction and interesting biographies. some of my favorites: Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert A. Heinlein The Chosen by Chaim Potuk (spelling?) Ender's Shadow by Orson Scott Chard Persepolis 1 & 2 (especially 2) by Marjane Satrapi Farenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury the list goes on...
Books with alot of pictures and pretty colors. Words I can read like cat, dog, run, etc is high on my list also. Just kidding. I love Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories. Ken Follet's Eye of the Needle is another favorite. As a kid I also liked to read C.S. Lewis Chronicles of Narnia
I read anything... seriously, it's insane. My favorites though are: The Anne of Green Gables series- L. Maud Montgomery Ender's Game- Orson Scott Card Brave New World- Aldous Huxley Mists of Avalon- Marion Zimmer Bradley Pretty wide variety just there. I'm also very fond of legends and myths, especially Arthurian legends. I can read forever about European history.
Non-fiction, strictly non-fiction. I read as much as I can about the concept of parallel universes and anything else that may have to do with them (ie. black holes, lucid dreaming). I also read a shitload about physics, but that sort of goes hand in hand with the universes. And then of course I like to read about counterculture revolutionaries and current trends and happenings in counterculture today.
im such a bibliophile. i inhale books lately my reading passions are: orthomolecular nutrition nonviolent natural parenting inspirational non-organized-religion based spirituality i'm still slogging thru the gunslinger series. and i'm waiting impatiently for the next book in the wheel of time series. i've always really enjoyed science fiction and fantasy. pivotal, life changing books for me have been stranger in a strange land, the bridge across forever, siddhartha and the celestine prophecy.
I enjoy books to which I can relate or that change my outlook on life. I'm not really into escapist or fantasy stuff.
I could go on and on about my love for books but I only have a few minuts so I"ll keep this short I love Sci-fi, Fantasy, Mysterys and oddly enough I love to read cookbooks, even if I don't cook anything out of them I am currantly reading the Fafhrd and Gray Mouser series by Fritz Leiber. Great books, I highly recomend them. I am also re-reading the Amelia Peabody mystery series by Elizabeth Peters. It's so good that I even got my mom hooked and she hardly reads anything! All I can say is if all of the books in the world disapeared I would go Maaad!!! Angel :sunglasse
Have a shot at these ~ The Good Women of China by Xinran One Small Sparrow by Jeff Leeland (Multnomah Publishers)
non fiction almost exclusively for me. i love metaphysical books (the holographic universe, astral dynamics), ancient history books (fingerprints of the gods, mystery of the sphinx, atlantis in america) and science books (elegant universe, tao of physics...) but i do enjoy ficiton when its different and amazing, like hitchikers guide, siddartha...
Siddhartha was one of those books that changed my outlook. We can try all of our lives, through a variety of venues, to find "the answer." But all one has to do is listen to himself (or in Siddhartha's case- the river and the ferryman). I thought it was really interesting how Hesse put what one could argue as a Western theme in an Eastern setting. I also think Govinda represents blind, religious submission (duh!) and that we should all strive to be like Siddhartha rather than Govinda. But in the words of Andre 3000: "That's just my interpretation." And I can't get into Douglas Adams for the life of me (much to my friends' dismay). It's not that I think his books suck or anything (I've read the first two of HHGTTG series), I just don't "get" British humoUr, I guess. Oh well.
Fiction, non-fiction.. Science fiction and fantasy aren't really... my cup of tea. But other than that.. I love many different genres.
I like to read novels by Anne Rice. She's my favorite author. Also I like reading the CSI series of books.
I like Lierataray Novels. I like books that are inciteful and interesting. I like non-fiction that deals with the folklore of various cultures. I like books on Paganism and witchcraft. I like the Vampire Chronicals by Anne Rice (the guilty pleasures)
I used to read an aweful lot - that is until my eyes burned out and I had to get glasses. I loved the works of Silverberg, Laumer, and other sci-fi greats. As a child, I read The Tarzan series and Doc Savage. As a young adult, I liked the Spiderman comics. But I've also read about herbs, physiognomy, and handwriting analysis with great satisfaction. For down and out weird, I recommend the Books of Charles Fort. Nowdays, about the only thing I read is the Bible. Before you dismiss this - there are some really cool stories in the Bible - stranger than fiction, you might say: like the one where a certain man came up from the grave; walked with two men to their home town, where he sat and ate supper with them - then disappeared before their eyes.
If I had any occult books, I would give them to you free of charge. I collect old books. It gives me a sense of continuity. I have a small book of Proverbs from 1864. Someone during the Civil War gave it as a gift to a sweetheart: their names forever inscribed inside the cover.
