I thought that I knew. But after several months on the forum, I'm wondering. So, I thought I'd ask for the opinion of everyone: is it life philosophy in general, political beliefs...

What, in your opinion, makes one a "hippie"?

    What makes me a hippy/ie:

My friends call me a hippy

    I have much hair

Common sense makes me politically Radical

    politics makes me snore

    I care about stuff

What makes me not a hippie:

    Greed and slobbish ethical compromise

    at least i care

I would describe "Hippie" as some one who isn't afraid of being her/himself- even if it doesn't conform to society norms, tolerant and accepting (no war, tries to be loving, etc.), and is more into a natural lifestyle ( real food, organic-ness, nudism, whatever).

    ... Yeah ... ... ...

Indifference to propriety + commitment to peace + love of beauty.

Being able to exist outside of a pre-determined set of behaviors designated by society or by trends. Being able to be happy alone with one's thoughts and mind. Having a zest for true knowledge and answers, but being humble enough to admit when you don't know them. Also, being able to maturely interact with your fellow members of the species is mandatory. Empathy towards other people and the Universe is needed too.

Hippie is kind of a precious ideal concept to me

I never relate to hippies on HF saying they don't like the 'label'

The only reason I don't like being called a hippie is because of the twinge of shame I feel for not filling my hippieshoes (aka feet, i spose)

Good definition, i would also include indifference to property.

Looking at the world every day through fresh eyes not through the traditions of your ancestors is important. When hippies adopt traditions of their own they cease to become hippies.

Let's not forget tolerance... And willingness to find peaceful and rational solutions to our problems...
Being called a hippie makes me proud, even if sometimes I feel I could do more, say more. But hey, at least I'm trying to live up to it:)
