I'm in a psychedelic/prog-rock band called Revolution-27, (the 27 being for the age of death with Hendrix, Morrison, Joplin, etc..) and we're trying to help with hopefully a revival of mid-60's to late-70's rock music, the way music should be! We're hippies, or at least I am, and I think the music buisness is nothing more than a means to make money that is run by conformist Nazis. I hope that if we ever make it big, we can make some changes (even if they're minor) in the music industry.

Good luck man. I think it is refreshing that someone still feels they can change the industry. Many people go in thinking the same thing but if you can keep on to your drive to change the business you may achieve what has been previously considered next to impossible.

    Peace,
    Shary

i just hope that your music is really coming from a heart-felt point of veiw. I'm tired of hearing the same songs with different beats every day. nothing is like the old-school music anymore. Noone cares how it makes the listener feel, and besides that, people are getting sucked into the system and think that every song is "the best song" ever. i'm tires of the same old, same old music.

Todays music has hit an all time low, while technology has hit an all time high. A lot of new bands or solo artists are more concerned with marketing and promotion then actual music. The system provides fame for the beautiful sucky singer, rather than the creative artistic normal one. This may explain why alot of current popluar artist also try out acting and vice versa. Simply because it is not there utter passion, it is a way to have the money, power, and fame. Back in the days people didn't care what a performer looked like, it was the music that was put on display not the clothes, jewlery or body.

I wish I could brother. Between my ailing car, new job, and other financial woes I'll be lucky to make this one and its right down the road. If yah ever find yerself up in my neck of the woods though, my door is always open and would love the company.

It's not like you even need to be in the "industry" these days though with the internet distribution and home burning capabilities. If you want an example of someone who has done quite well without the mainstream, just look to Ani Difranco. That womyn is a wrecking ball when it comes to mainstream standards. You can do it on your own and there's no need to pay any mind to what the mainstream says is palatable.

If that were the case, great bands like the Beatles, Grateful Dead, Dave Matthews Band, etc. never would have made it, they weren't what "the public" was looking for. But as the old saying goes, "If you build it, they will come."

As a musician here in Seattle, I tried for years to be a part of the mainstream scene. But it stopped being fun to be a musician, so now it's my hobby and I'm just working on small home studio releases to sell at open mic's and stuff. If more comes of it great, but to me it's still about the music and doing it the way I want to. Best of luck to you and your band though, keep playing no matter what!
