My firefox just stopped working yesterday... kind of. I have to load it three times for it to finally work, and than it takes a few minutes to go from one site to another. The first two times I click on the icon, I got the attached popup... My brother installed Diablo 2 yesterday, and the first time this happened was the first time I went on after he installed it... perhaps that could have something to do with it?
Warnings about corrupted files and requests to run chkdsk are an indication that your hard drive might be failing. Run ChkDsk or another HDD diagnostic, and start backing up important files if anything is found.
Yep. If the hard drive is going south, it can take ALL your data with it. Run the diagnostics, and start backing up NOW.
Chkdsk ran this morning, and deleted: index entry permdata.box in index $I30 of file 45195. I told my dad about this, and that everything on the hard drive could soon be deleted, and he didn't believe me. Since I'm moving soon in quite possibly 2 weeks or so, I'm just gonna burn all my remaining musis, and the computer can determine its own course. I'm not gonna waste any money on this.. but are computer games known to cause failures? Like I said, this didn't start happening until after my brother installed Diablo 2.
nah, i've got DII and LOD installed, and firefox is just fine. maybe, if anything, installing a big game like that taxed an already dying drive.
real dumb considering a hard drive is cheap this day $40 to $80.00 gets you a nice HD. YOU well need a new OS. WINDOW XP $89.00 IN MOST PLACES.Price: $82.99
Have you tried uninstalling Firefox and reinstalling it. It looks as if you have Firefox 1.0 currently installed. Are you aware that there are newer versions out which fix a lot of security issues? It might not fix your problem, but for security reasons it can be a good idea to keep your browser updated.
This is really no big deal, files can get corrupted multiple ways. You can probably fix your problem be uninstalling firefox and reinstalling. I dont think you will lose your data. Also, XPCOM is probably the COM+ service windows xp uses to communicate between com applications, or a COM interface Firefox uses(probably for the gui). It may be possible that some files in windows are corrupted or damaged that are relative with COM, but i highly doubt this.
