This is mostly dedicated to people WHO KNOW WHAT GOOD QUALITY IS!!

Whats happend to peoples sense of WHATS GOOD??

They accept this garbage today that back 30 years ago,THEY WOULDNT HAVE ACCEPTED!!!

Ill list some examples....

PLASTIC SIDING ON HOUSES -- LOOKS FUCKING DISGUSTING AS HELL!! (The original alluminum siding was SO MUCH BETTER yet people are happy with this newer crap)

FLAT SCREEN TVS - PURE TRASH!!!! -- The orignal CRT TV produced a MUCH BETTER PICTURE,always has,ALWAYS WILL!!!!!!! (Sounds better also)

CD/DVD - ALSO CRAP COMPARED TO ANALOGUE STANDARDS -- I love my VHS machene and i am grateful to have as many movies as i do ON VHS!! (Some in SP MODE (Nothing better (The sound cant be beat and the picture is superb........)))

Music sounds MUCH BETTER in its original analogue form yet some ppl insist this newer digital crap sounds better......... (When it cant possibly)

WEB DESIGN - I have seen web sites that USED TO LOOK BEAUTIFUL THAT NOW LOOK LIKE CRAP AND THE ADMINS THINK ITS BETTER!! (I just cannot believe it)

Whats happend to ppls wills,thier sense of GOOD??? They have been completly dumbed down AND DONT EVEN REALISE IT!! (They just accept thier new programming w/o even questioning it)

This is just some of the things i am so confused about... EVERYTHING I LISTED ABOVE IS CRAP COMPARED TO WHAT WE HAD YEARS AGO YET EVERYONE ACCEPTS THIS GARBAGE AND ACTUALLY THINKS ITS BETTER!! (Well most everyone)

People are controlled sheep,programmed not to challenge anything and just ACCEPT CRAP and its just sad.........

I miss the way automobiles were built years ago, the new ones are shit.

 

Most ppl don't care about the quality of what they buy because there will be something new they can buy the next week. In the old days something you bought had to last for years, now a days products last a year and then something new is out. Look at things as the ipad, iphone, smartphones, cars, etc. Companies just want to make a quick buck, they don't care for quality anymore. Long live capitalism.

 

CRTs were ridiculously massive and heavy

Cell Phones and Tablet PCs are way cooler than the shit I had to put up with 10 years ago.


Agree with Cars, lot more features nowadays, but they all kind of look the same

The fact that you are comparing and promoting either side of this argument means you are endorsing consumerism and silly aesthetic preferences and shallow entertainment instead of highlightling the real, harmful issues behind these products. The title of this thread is "What's happened to people??" when in fact it should be "What's happened to products?"

Well if people were THE SAME AS THEY WERE IN THE 80s,THEY WOULD COMPLAIN MORE AND DEMAND BETTER STUFF!!!

They dont and just accept this aweful crap when what they had in the 80s and before WAS MUCH BETTER QUALITY,LOOKED BETTER,ETC......

I think Cell phones were MUCH BETTER when they first came out in the 80s.... Bigger,easier to use,sounded better,etc.....

 

Yes, demanding better stuff is gong to help a lot. If only people demanded better stuff, maybe the world wouldn't be such an awful place.

It's give and take. I mean CRT's are fucking shit and I'm glad there done. I never want to lift another one of those blurry heavy static machines. On the other hand I miss my 80's honda civic that I paid $200 for and got 50MPG when now I pay $2000+ for beaters that barely get 30MPG. Now MP3's beat the hell out of skippy disks and draggy tapes. High variable encoding rates are INDISTINGUISHABLE from any analogue recoding quality. Some cheap MP3 players do not have good quality output DAC circuitry, others are just great! No, you're not going to get high end sound from onboard PC audio and iphones! I don't really care for all these new FPS video games, I load up my xbox and run Pac Man and Donkey Kong emulators on it.

 

I do sometimes wonder if the products that are sold are truly what the consumer market wants or if people just settle on what's plentiful in the market.

As for the electronics, it's not a big issue for me. I sorta liked the picture and sound better on the CRT, but it died so I got a flatpanel lcd. It does its job. I have no complaints, don't miss the weight of the CRT either.

I've never been one to get super excited about consumer technology, I don't want a 3D TV.

The sound quality of music is far superior in a live performance. Beyond that, recorded music basically sounds the same to me whether it's from CD or mp3.

VHS and cassettes decay over time.

 

They have become so DUMBED DOWN they accept whatever and its sad!!

We got 2 used HUGE CRTs from where my sister works (They upgraded to flat screens) and 1 of these CRTs is in our living room!!

ITS A PIECE OF FUCKING GARBAGE!!!!

1) You cant reprogram it to take out the crap the hotel put in there.
2) IT STARTS ON CHANNEL 0 WHEN YOU TURN IT ON... (No way to reprogram)
3) ITS WAY TOO DARK!!!!!!!! (The brightness is turned down)

THEY DONT CARE,THEY THINK ITS BETTER THAN THE OTHER ONE WE HAD!!!! (Which was MUCH BETTER TRUST ME!!)

They asked me when they got these things if i wanted one and i said NO and now that i see how much of a piece of shit it is,IM GLAD I DID!!!

 

what happened to people is expecting everyone ELSE to change so THEY won't have to.

what happened to 'stuff' is that technology is still evolving in the directions people's priorities create markets for. of course quality lowers to whatever people will still buy.

if people would rather spend their money on being entertained and trying to impress each other, well, how can that not create a market for impressive looking crap that falls apart almost as soon as it actually begins being used?

not to mention "info-tainment" with the emphasis on the tainment, that's all about convincing them that's what they need and want.

would people be killing each other half way around the world for oil, if people didn't worship their cars to try and impress each other with, instead of using more sensible forms of public transit where its available, and insisting on it being so in places where it could be and isn't?

 

I think with a lot of these things it's because more people have them

Cellphones probably were better made in the 80s, but probably about 5% of people had them as opposed to the 95% of people now
Same with a lot of music, like people say 80s hiphop was better, but that was because hardly any rappers got to make records because the audience was small and quite poor. Now it is the most saleable kind of music so there is 100 times as much and the quality suffers etc

 

Analogue music is better I'll agree, but no way is CRT better. Are you using a CRT monitor right now or a flatscreen? Who wants a convex viewing surface?
