here in canada (ontario, to be more precise), the atmosphere is pretty relaxed around weed. walking down the street smoking a joint might get you some weird looks, but most likely nothing will come of it. at bars you can usually just take a couple steps from the front door and smoke a joint, although some are really strict and won't let you back in, but that isn't really the norm. pretty much everyone here either smokes somewhat regularly, or knows someone who does. what's it like where you live? is it okay to light up in public, or do you have to make more of an effort to hide it?
I have to hide it, one there is a cop always across the street right in front of the ally watching for speeders I got a noise neighbor. She threatened to call the cops a few years back because we were lighting fireworks outside. Which is bullshit we were not lighting anything when she was outside? We waited till she went in. she was clamming a firework went in between this lady and her dog. She wasn't even outside when we were lighting them off. such bs. not too many cops around town. other then that, the winter time is awfull, it's too damn cold out to be smoking at night. the summer times are amazing. I like sitting in my swing rocking back a and forth watching for shooting stars
people don't mind.. it is what it is.. this state is filled with dank buds everywhere... and we're not even a med state... you can usually catch the whiff of bud in the air at the bars and shows.. i've never had a problem toking around town..
The winter is god awful when it comes to smoking. I live in michigan now and i have to fairly carful since I'm near lots of conservative suburbs, Moving out to Humboldt in a couple months though and I'm pretty sure the atmosphere will be much more welcoming of ganja smoke there.
We're all outlaws. You CANNOT walk down the street with it. The upside is the kind of people I've met. You'll get the occasional douchebag but mostly smokers around here are chill and have a lot of interesting things to say.
Not so relaxed unless you're in special parts of the state and even then, when pigs are near, you best keep your head down and hide your shit. I would never toke out in the open except for at shows and maybe in a tent somewhere.
Its pretty relaxed here. Lots of foresty places to go to sesh.. And its not that sketchy toking up on the street. Down in vancouver theres you can even blaze and hang out at the New Amsterdam Cafe and the BCMP. Its like an amsterdam coffee shop!
there are a couple places in toronto that let you vape inside or smoke outside. i know at least one of them lets you smoke joints in there at night when they have live music. they don't sell anything though.
shit's changing with Harper in charge...a friend of mine has a court case for a half gram of weed. Things are going to shit slowly...
I smoke on my property, or across the road in a field, or wherever folks don't mind. I don't usually have to venture far.
yeah these new laws are pretty scary. basically the opposite of what anyone who knows anything about the criminal justice system would recommend.
It's pretty relaxed here, but I wouldn't want to get caught with it outside the city limits. But, Seattle does host the largest Hempfest, too, so there ya go.
I'm in a medical state, MI, and I have fibromyalgia thus I use mj for pain control. However, due to some issues in the state regarding the law and cops citing federal law to prosecute patients, I do not have a license. I would like one for ease of access (as it stands I have to go an hour away to get any, I know there are dealers locally but I can't find them). I think that the chances of prosecution in my county erroneously by cops is unlikely, but my husband disagrees, and he balks at the cost of the license ($100 to the state annually, $100-$200 to a doctor annually for re-certification). I understand some of his reasoning to an extent, there have been threats to revoke or severely cripple the law recently. My neighbors seem pretty cool, but I switched to a vape anyhow for health and safety. I figure I lower my risk of getting caught if it doesn't smell like I'm smoking it as we do have cops drive by sometimes, the cop shop is just 2 blocks away. I wouldn't dream of walking down the street smoking a j.
it's such a shame that people like you, who actually use it for legitimate medical reasons and not recreationally, are so criminalized. yet you could be popping oxycontin for your pain every few hours and be completely okay. weird world we live in.
I would be extremely useless on oxy, I bet. Haven't used it, but I know that percocet makes for couch lock and lots of sleeping. I don't deal with that with mj, I can still do stuff. I agree, the laws are so fucked up. Hell, there is a guy in my psych class who takes morphine daily for pain...why is that ok but mj is not? Mj has so many uses besides getting high, it's been proven to kill cancer! But the DEA and the feds have to get all up in arms about it. It's just a plant, man. An awesome plant.
Well it kinda depends, I am in the Denver area of Colorado and its possible to sneak a couple hits in public if you're careful especially if you have a hand held vaporizer that wont cause much smell or have the weed mixed with tobacco in a ciggeratte to reduce the smell. But that can be more risky in some areas than others so it is important to observe the surroundings before trying to smoke out in the open. Otherwise just go somewhere out of view and smoke people probably are not going to freak out if they smell marijuana. Then of course it goes without saying smoking on private property is the safest way because even if someone did call the cops they can't come in your house and search because someone called saying it looked like you were smoking weed in your yard. For all they know you where smoking legal herbs out of your bong.
Yes the laws are very fucked up, though I would have to say I certainly don't see anything wrong with using cannabis to get high since I don't see it as being any worse than getting drunk.
I see it as safer than getting drunk. You don't hear of stoners with cirrhosis of the liver. And most stoners don't get angry and get into fights while high!
