I was given a high powered air rifle in order to clear a building full of pigeons. I was so repulsed by the idea of holding a gun of any kind that I opted for a sling shot and used that instead. I think I would still have a problem holding a gun today. Now, I am curious, not that your opinion matters, but do you think the fact that I was repulsed by the gun is evidence of a healthy mindset or an unhealthy one?
I don't think that you can classify it in such broad terms. I think that the fact that you actually killed the pigeons is more disturbing than the weapon choice.
Well the reasons why you felt uncomfortable about the gun is going to be far more useful in determining if it is healthy or not.
:iagree: The point of using a gun to scare birds isn't to hurt them, it's to shoot the thing in the air once and they all fly away. The town I used to live in was infested with all these crazy birds one year. I'm tellin you main street was covered in bird shit. So the city paid me and a few friends (one friend was an older man who worked for the city) to shoot off a few rounds from the rooftops along main street. That was some good times...
Oh I didn't notice that you said "air rifle". Fuckin sling shots more dangerous than an air rifle. I vote unhealthy
You're right, and again please don't take the above as a personal attack you narcissistic fuck (the same applies, peace).... I felt uncomfortable because of its ability to kill humans...but who kills the humans, the gun or its user? That is the kind of direction I'm trying to take this thread in. If I was sincerely disgusted by murder then perhaps I wouldn't have felt so repulsed by the gun??? About the pigeons, they are a pest here, an introduced species and we were being paid to clear them out of a building. If its any consolation I felt bad after killing a few so I got the axe out and killed all the fatally wounded ones that nobody else had the guts to finish off.
lol I used to have pellet gun fights as a child. I can understand fearing guns but those aren't really guns
Then why not ask, whats more important nature vs nurture? or what came first the chicken or the egg? bah its just a banter thread.
knowing that guns kill people and that I don't know how to properly operate one scares me. sort of like, what if I hold it wrong or touch it wrong and accidently shoot someone.... was your fear along those lines possibly?
not healthy or unhealthy, just irrational. man up and learn to fire a gun. you wouldn't last 2 minutes in my world, bitch.
Definitely. Also its from watching too many action movies and about what guns symbolise, and that is war and murder. Remember also that we don't have much of a gun culture in my country, if we wanted to overthrow our government we'd probably have to use kitchen knives.
Our gun culture is just underground, plenty of people with weaponry, especially bikies but no one has an excuse to carry here so yeah its a different story.
