So if everything goes according to plan I should be out of here by midsummer 2010.

With the high school final exams and shit like that I probably won't be free until early July 2010 and I'm sure auditions and interviews for schools I'd like to apply to begin earlier than that since school year starts in September in most schools on the planet.

Do you think I could use a gap year to just get a job and get settled in? My move-plan is London and I've never been (I'll go this summer to check it out just in case).. I'm pretty easily adaptable and if I can push in some late applications a month or two should actually be plenty of time to get adjusted but I don't know, shit might get hectic.

    What do you think?

I'm thinking getting a place or job might be hard. You can always go down talk to people in the Uk forums cos they'll know more. I mean on one hand flat prices etc will be going down, on the other jobs are disappearing.

Flat prices in London are surprisingly cheap compared to some other places I was considering and looking at at some point (talking to you, New York).

Plus I can always be a hooker.

i took a gap semester. i recommend that rather than an entire year.. a semester is plenty of time, and starting in spring is quite low-key.

finals last a month into summer vacation there?

also, most american schools at least start in late august now.

anyway, i obviously know nothing about the european education system (auditions and interviews, WTF!?), but i certainly recommend all american students to take a year off before going to college. it's straight up impossible to determine what you want to do with your life, and thus what you should take in school, without having spent some time out in the real world. the people who think they know what they want to be when they're 12 and go to special high schools for it and go straight to college in that major are just doing what mommy and daddy want them to do, and will probably not be happy with their life down the road.

Gap year is awesome, definitely do it. And finding a job in London shouldn't be a problem, particularly if you're not too too picky. As for finding a flat, Gumtree.co.uk is great.

You have to get an interview in american colleges too, don't you?

Btw people, I never said flat prices would be high, I said there'd be low but you'd probably still need a job and they'd be tougher to get. xD

It wasn't just directed to you.
    Unless you're people.

Besides, I wouldn't think being a hooker would work anyway. Surely the money problems would affect the horny too.
    Try it, test the theory.

nope. american colleges are just after your money, so they don't really try very hard to turn customers away.

usually you just need to apply, occasionally write a short essay that they won't read.
