for a while, does everything get really hazed out or eventually change colours and objects grow and shrink in side and some go invisible or look two-dimensional? That's what happens to me and I was wondering if it's normal. It's been that way since I was born
oh yea. All the time. Or, like if I look at a fabric thats a really trippy or square pattern, like small plaid squares, it jumps into the foreground and the shit around it goes out of focus.
I have really bad eyesight, so I think I woudl say that happens to me all the time. I dont think it is that normal but I have no idea.
I figured out how to do it at will while i was bored in a vipassana course a while ago. Its best to do it in a dark room, and eventually you can pretty much make everything disappear from your vision.
That has always happens to me. Especially if i have been staring at a screen for a long time or have had my eyes closed but not sleeping.
Sorry to wake a dead thread, but I found this and had some input on the topic. I've found that you actually have much control over the hallucinations that occur when you're staring down one spot. For example, I was lying in bed, the fan was off. I was looking at the reflection of the street light, on the brass ring between the fan and ceiling, it was sort of a small strip of light. It helps if the spot contrasts to what is around it. As things began to settle in, I found that whatever I omitted from thought, would disappear. I would think (I'm putting it into words), make x fan blade disappear. After NOT thinking about it existing, ONLY that fan blade would disappear. Of course I went on to make the fan disappear, with the ceiling texture filling in its void. Eventually, by thinking that the room did not exist, everything faded from sight. I was in a black realm, with bits and pieces of the room sort of flying about, generally towards the point I was staring at. I'm wondering how much further you can go, but since by that point my eyes were moving off the point I couldn't continue. I imagine its because the brain is doing a lot of work, and the eyes can't stay still much like REM sleep. I know the same thing happens while i'm playing with CEVs. Anyways, hope someone reads this and tries it for themselves, or has more input. Take it easy.
You must focus on one spot. You cannot allow yours eyes to so much as jitter off of the point of focus. It is this part that causes the effect to take place. When looking at the spot, try to imagine as if nothing else matters except that spot. It will help you maintain focus on it. Try to stare it down.
