Where Do I Find Mushroom Growing Kits?

Where can I find kits to grow my own mushrooms. And how easy are they to grown.

How many ounces or grams can you get on a normal growkit compared to doing it yourself, like if you had 8 rice cakes in a fruiting chamber

 

Grow kits are a no. They don't produce as much, and they sometimes don't grow at all. Grow kits usually only have 1 or 2 production cycles. Do it yourself, it's cheap and easy. go to Fungifun.org for the easiest tek.

 

There's no way to tell. Way, way too many variables.

Right. Depends on the spore you buy, how many jars get contaminated, how many aborts you get, etc. But if you follow the FungiFun tek exactly as it says, you will get a much larger quantity (unless you use a slow cycle strain) and it will be cheaper too.

 

if i take one cap and make a spore print, and mix the spores with water and soil, will anything come out?

 

No. You need to give it the right nutrients and weather conditions. You'd also have to start with spawn, not spores, to guarantee fruits.

Consider skipping the grow kit and going with PF Tek instead.

 

i've heard it's dangerous to grow your own due to bacterial risks or something. Like you can mess them up and make poison ones. Does anyone know of this?

 

As far as growing kits go, definetly stay away. I'm saying this from experience, I bought one before I did any research on mushroom growing. Complete waste of money. Just look up everything that comes in a kit and you can buy it all separately for cheaper.
And for the post above me. Yes a grow can get contaminated, with other molds or a bacterial contamination. But when this happens, it takes over and mushrooms don't usually grow. And if a few mushrooms still grow, you can tell by looking at them they are no good, plus they will smell bad (as opposed to regular mushroom smell). Even so, there are reports of people eating contaminated mushrooms with no other ill effect other than upset stomach and nausea, this of course is highly not recomended, why risk it.
