I've aimed to explain my situation in a prior post, but I'll recap here quickly. I'm newly adult and independent, I've always had an interest in BDSM but I'm painfully shy and I have no idea where to start. I'm here, now, looking for some tips-- how do I start? How should I begin, when I'm on my own? How do I find out if this is right for me, what I like, what's good for me? *Can* I even take part of any BDSM things on my own? I'm a little lost and confused, it's all a bit overwhelming.

And, I so greatly appreciate the warm welcomes I was given here under my initial post :) You all are so kind and reassuring! I'm looking forward to responses and getting to know you guys better :3

While with your partner openly discuss your interest. Might start by foreplay with blind fold, feather teaser and hand cuffs! Then discuss this more moving forward! ;-)

There are semi-formal clubs around that involve 'more adventurous' types of activities. If you online search for club names like Apex in Phoenix, AZ (one example), you may find similar clubs in different states. They tend to be low profile - but not 'secret'. I went to an
open house once - most of the people were married couples, many of them outgoing and educated. (Your mileage may vary)
