Well, I'm really different from most teens. I'm very rebellious against my ''family'', I just don't whine and bitch about it like a lot of teenagers do. I don't give a shit about telling people anything; they don't need to know. No one really cares either.

And besides, Jerry Garcia is a God. What deadhead wouldn't quote him?

by reading that quote, not everyone

I mean, it's like he's saying 'we all die, so if someone OD's on heroin that's cool, because he was going to die eventually'. Difference is, dying at 22 in a puddle of your own vomit isn't quite the same as dying at 80 in your sleep.

As for the women, stop cruising the gay section

I was saying anyone could quote him for any quote, not just one about drugs.

But still, it is true that everyone must die of something. And if a heroin overdose is what it's meant to be, it's meant to be. I'd rather live a shortened life while being a happy and fulfilled heroin addict than live a sad, sober, and unjoyable long life(thought I'm not saying living sober is depressing).

AKA, my life was shit and depression before I found drugs. Now that I found drugs, I feel as if I can do anything in the world. I can relate to the quote extremely well.

I'm more or less ten years older than you, I can assure you that you will mince those words eventually

it's incredible what we can do at 16, aging changes all of that :p

Sure is; time changes everything. In every way, shape and form.

Though, I didn't quite get your quote, were you saying that drugs are harder on your body 10 years down the road? I already figured that part out years ago in a major drug indecent between family members..

But seriously, you wouldnt have heard of the Grateful Dead from your classmates

When I was younger, I was tortured by my mum with ABBA, as a result evertime I hear Dancing Queen I tilt my head back in preparation to be breast fed. Thus ABBA the complete polar opposite of cool

If you talk to girls your age about how great your grandads favourite band was, it may be affecting your game

Actually, I would've. I live in a small hippie/college/stoner/activist town. Just about everyone hear listens to the Dead. It's like a mini San Francisco in the 60's. It's pretty far out.

Plus a long line of members in my family are deadheads, I was bound to pick up the music sooner or later.

San Francisco isn't as liberal as you think. The war on homelessnes has devolved to the point that you can get arrested for sitting on your backpack on the sidewalk. They also have put large groups of homeless on a bus and sent them to Humboldt County. There is a bunch of shit that goes on in San Francisco that belies that Liberal Image. BTW Haight Ashbury isn't the Hippie Mecca it's still portrayed as in the media. It is more like a Shopping Mall with Dope dealers (actually Gutter Punks selling bunk weed at exhorbanant prices to tourists who want to say "I bought Reefer from a Hippie in Haight Ashbury").

I actually used to hear the Dead on the radio back home in Maine. As a matter of fact "Ripple" is like a funeral song for me. Anyway, I have never known any "Happy, fulfilled Heroin Addicts." They have all been sick, dirty and living either on the street or in shitty hotel rooms, carrying around bottles of bleach water so they can clean any needles that they find. Sounds fulfilling doesn't it.

Yes there is alot of wisdom that can be gleaned from some of Garcias statements. There is also alot of wisdom that can be gleaned from some of Charles Mansons statements. That makes neither one of them a "God". Garcia himself wasn't comfortable with anyone thinking of him as a God.

Remember that drugs and alcohol are and accessory not a necessity. So you get that rush of artificial courage when you are high. It's like that old song "Oz never gave anything to the Tin Man that he didn't already have." The drugs didn't give you or anyone any of that shit. You already had it the drugs just temporarily took away whatever socialised mental blocks that prevented you from realising it. When you discover how to do that on your own you can be a "God" too. Once you can start transcending your ego you should be alright.

I'm not one of those Nancy Reagan types. I do drink and smoke pot daily. Usually only one beer and just enough pot to feel. And only when the work is done. I generally find people who stay high and or drunk 24-7 to be boring and generally aggrivating.

    Peace Out,
    Rev J

I remember when I was 16 thinking "Im not like other teenagers, I know better, Im smarter, Ive been through more" Now at 27 I look back on how stupid I was, and now Im smart enough to know that I still know almost nothing.

Ohh and to stay on topic, there are plenty of chicks on here.

I see lots of girls on these boards, myself included.

But haha I find it kind of amusing that people on the hippie forum are telling this guy that it's creepy that he loves the Dead.

I wasn't telling him he was creepy for liking the Dead. I was clearing up the faulty logic in some of his other posts. I used the Charles Manson reference to illustrate that just because someone says some wise things doesn't make them a role model. And Garcia didn't want to be a role model.

Maybe it is my age but it kind of gets to me when kids romanticise times and places they never were.

Though, I said San Francisco in the 1960's. I was simply referring to the counterculture at the time period, not anything technical.

    ..Where'd I ever say the word liberal?

Even though a lot of herion addicts aren't ''happy'', there are still a good number of addicts who were extremely successful within their careers:

    Kurt Cobain

    David Bowie

    Jerry Garcia

    Courtney Love

    Robert Downey Jr.

Some happy, some not. Some recovered, some dead.

I simply think of Jerry as a ''God'' of music, not an actual divine being. The Grateful Dead changed rock history, not to mention they practically gave birth to the Jam Band genre AND influenced the use of LSD through out the 1960's psychedelic culture by attending Ken Kesey's Acid Tests. I like Jerry Garcia because I like the Grateful Dead. Period. I also idolize Timothy Leary and Jim Morrison, which I also could've put quotes for. But I knew Jerry is a lot more influential so I chose him. His quote also spoke to me, so what the hell. Why not put it up there?

    I don't see how.
Not much else to do for fun besides get high and listen to music..

Rev J: You should hang out with your stoned friends when your not stoned. One of the clients I have has about 3 other attendants who come to work stoned. I spend about half of my time trying to figure out where they put shit and half the time when they are called they can't remember either. If you can only talk about getting stoned you are boring and pathetic. About staying drunk too. It's too bad you're only 16 I would suggest you go to your local bar I don't mean the nice one where the yuppies hang out I'm talking about the one where professional drunks go you know the ones who can blow .08 into a breathaliser first thing in the morning at about 2 oclock on a Tuesday afternoon to see how cool that is.

As for doing other things for fun besides getting high and listening to music try the following activities:
Take up an instrument and actually play music.
    Read a book.
Volunteer to help make other peoples lives better.
    Get a Job.
    Start a band.
    Learn to cook.
    Jerk off.

Then after all is said and done take a couple of hits off the bowl, have a beer and listen to some music. You'll enjoy it more.

    Peace Out,
    Rev J
