Hey there guys. I was just wondering; what do you think is gonna happen in say, 50 years? I mean, where is all of this going? 'This' being Britain as it is at the moment.

I want to know what you think Britain is heading for and how these things can be avoided. There are lots of things that affect the future britain, such as: Our standing with other countries, such as with America (The most powerful nation in the world). The law, what people can and cant do. And most importantly, whether the government are going to legalise dope!?

So give me feedback on what you think is going to happen in Britain. And remeber; this is a democracy, so what you think, you have to power to make it happen!

    Love Moonhawk :)

I don't think America is the most powerful nation in the world. China beats them by a long shot, in my opinion.

I guess they are becomeing a superpower very fast, but it appears to be America that are thought to be (at least in the western world) the most powerful nation.

    Hey Moonhawk

If you're just 14, then it's going to be up to you and people like you what happens in the next 50 years.

Just try and do a better job than we did, OK?

Don't worry, me and my generation have it all planned out. Grow up a little, sort out enviroment, gain world peace and finaly have world-wide rave party!

But seriously, this thread is a bit like asking for idea for the future.

I'd imagine some of the low lying areas of the country will be under water by then, which will cause economic and social changes.

There'll probably be a lot less cars on the road, as fuel prices will be so high, and the cost of living will be much higher as a result.

Medicine will have made many more advances, but the best treatment will only be affordable to the well off. We'd probably all have to pay for healthcare by then.

Science and technology will be God knows where. I hope we don't all end up with digital chips in our heads, but I can see it happening.

The old will be poor because of the way pensions are going, and the welfare state will also take a hammering due to less of the population working, unless the numbers are kept up through immigration.

I'd like to think we'd have a good education system by then, but who knows?

There are certainly problems ahead. I hope some decent politicians (oxymoron?) come forward in the future.

Einstein is supposed to have said that prediction is very difficult, especially when it concerns the future. For instance, one thing we can be sure of is that the oil is running out. And yet, the oil was running out when I was moonhawk's age, back in 1970. That was around the time climate scientists were warning us of an impending ice age...

Well, i think huge changes in society will happen far far in the future, like the micro-chips. Look at the film 2001, that got it realy wrong. But envorimentaly i think we need to make big changes. People arn't. Especialy as people think it's "un-cool" to be eco.

I hope it doesn't change too much in my lifetime.

It would be good if it didn't change at all.

    everything changes...thats unavoidable really.

You've only got to look at history to realise that all the worlds past superpowers have eventually crumbled. Any civilisation which believes that it can scientifically understand and cure anything, but yet has wide spread social and cultural problems like ours is doomed to collapse.

Anyone or being or culture that see's itself at the 'peak' of civilisation is misguided...

    but alas!

we'll probally burn up eventually, it could take another thousand years, but it'll happen...

I think you're right about civilisations and they're 'peak' of power. Although Britain is wealthy, well defended and lets be honest here, pretty great country. These things were only achived by about 2000 years of building up England.

But a mountain can only go so high, and when Britain reaches its unpredictable peak of power and wisdom it will collaps and we will have to start all over again. Although the world appears to be 'going over;' already I dont think it will be in my lifetime, maybe in the next 100-300 years.
