They're two very different and talented bands, it'd be impossible to know who's better of the two. Myself, I like The Who more. :sunglasse
The mysticism surrounding them and their music draws you in hypnotically. They were massive without the help of singles and relied on extensive touring and the loyalty of their fans. They were closer as a band... John Bonham died and the band vowed not to play as Led Zeppelin again, Keith Moon died but The Who carried on regardless replacing band members over and over. The Who haven't released any half decent albums recently in band or solo and rely on their 'status' to keep going. Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and Jimmy Paige are all actively creating new music as solo artists. Robert Plant and Jimmy Paige tour almost constantly, not for the fame or money, but because they enjoy it. It doesn't matter what I say, someone is going to disagree with me and I don't care!!! We all like different things, wouldn't it be boring if we didn't
Indeed....geezus...tough call..... For songwriting I'd have to go with The Who......for originality....The Who again....but for raw power, energy and stage prescense...Led Zep wins... Carrots and turnips, horses for courses....can't split 'em totally...
how so? Led Zeppelin easily takes the cake. Heres why. Led Zeppelin were more than just a band -- they were the perfect combination of the most intense elements: passion and mystery and expertise. It always seemed like Led Zeppelin were searching for something. They weren't content being in one place, and they were always trying something new. They could do anything, and I believe they would have done everything if they hadn't been cut short by John Bonham's death. Zeppelin served as a great escape from a lot of things. There was a fantasy element to everything they did, and it was such a major part of what made them important. Who knows if we'd all be watching Lord of the Rings movies right now if it wasn't for Zeppelin. They were never critically acclaimed in their day, because they were too experimental and they were too fringe. In 1968 and '69, there was some freaky shit going on, but Zeppelin were the freakiest. I consider Jimmy Page freakier than Jimi Hendrix. Hendrix was a genius on fire, whereas Page was a genius possessed. Zeppelin concerts and albums were like exorcisms for them. People had their asses blown out by Hendrix and Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton, but Page took it to a whole new level, and he did it in such a beautifully human and imperfect way. He plays the guitar like an old bluesman on acid. When I listen to Zeppelin bootlegs, his solos can make me laugh or they can make me tear up.
if you stuck a gun to my head i would have to say led zeplin, mostly because i think stairway to heaven might very well be the greatest song ever writen
