I know that the whole Fb thing is annoying and egocentric, silly and highschoolish...

BUUUT I'm really excited about my latest FB friend who asked me FIRST to be her friend. I'm sure I will never communicate with her ... actually I bet I will communicate with her because that's the way I am. hehe. I am so lame why would she ask me to be her friend OMG. (Im embarassed at my sheer happiness over this)

She was the former lead singer for the Duhks, a band which I love ... she is an artist, a dancer, and has super cool tattoos.

So she is my recent cool facebook friend. Sorry for mentioning FB.

Many Egyptians, in what is still a police state, regard Facebook as a safe haven where they can campaign and express their opinions freely. But that could soon change following a crackdown by the authorities against various types of media.


In Egypt, many opposition movements have either started or grown significantly on Facebook, most notably the April 6 youth movement and the national campaign to support Nobel peace prize winner Mohamed ElBaradei as a presidential candidate.


Understanding the impact Facebook now has on Egypt's political life, the Egyptian TV's most popular talk show, Masr ElNahrda (Egypt Today), suggested banning Facebook or passing a law to regulate Facebook activities in Egypt.


The show's host, Mona ElSharkawy, and her two guests heavily criticised Facebook and warned viewers against its evil and how it can be used by intelligence apparatuses all over the world to gather secret information about target countries.

...and what happened? Internet taken down in Egypt.

The list is almost endless of how many brilliant groups are on Facebook...yes, and lots of people going: Omg, wtf and brb etc.
Hands up, guilty of that too...but I also have learnt a great deal from the Facebook "community"....don't totally knock it.

I tend to think my RL friends on FB are cooler than the glamorous few celebrity FB friends I have. Just reconnected with a good friend from college and a former roommate yesterday. So, I respectfully disagree that FB sucks...it has served me very well.

That's not to say all celebrities suck, rather it is to say that my friends are cooler than even celebrities. It's a shame that sometimes they make me feel like a groupie.

 

I had a Myspace a few years ago. My coolest friend was this skinhead girl who I always used to fight with in high school who got some absurdly large tit implants and became a fetish model.

That was actually the last straw on why I gave up on social networking. I realized I was on her fan page... lol even though I never liked her much it still pissed me off.

all my fb friends are people i know. i don't rank my friends in order of coolness, since being my friend pretty much guarantees that you're not cool anyway.

my facebook friends are all people i know. they're all pretty rad but i'm not gonna go bragging about them on an internet forum or anything..

I befriended Augusten Burroughs, my favorite gay author, on Myspace back when people used myspace and he leaves me a comment every year on my birthday wishing me a happy birthday. He always says "Your present is you don't have to be as old as me!" i love that guy.
