Has anyone heard Who loves the sun by Velvet underground? It's a very cynical song if you listen to the lyrics. It was wrote during a time when everone loved the sun and nature and you have him saying, "Who loves the sun, Who cares that it makes plants grow."
You forgot the part where Lou sings, "Who cares what it does since you broke my heart?" I think that's the point of the song... who cares about the sun (or anything else for that matter) when your heart is broken?
ya I realized that its about a heartbreak, but I think it also has a kind of attitude against hippies.
