This probably has already been discussed here, but I just want to know why my cramps are extremely painful during my period? Sometimes they are so bad I end up puking because they make me so sick. The other day I had to leave work early because I felt like I couldn't even move, and I laid in my bed the rest of the night. Painkillers don't work either.

I looked up everything I could on the internet about painful cramps, but had no luck. I don't know if it's a real serious problem, but I would like some insight and some help to get this pain away.

After reading a couple threads in this sections of the forums, I figured out it's not just me, but a lot of you get bad cramps on your periods too. I told my mom about this and she doesn't see it as a big problem, so she won't make me an appointment for the gyno.

Do any of you know of any serious problems that could cause cramps to be this serious?

    hey

for years I had awful, hideous, stay in bed crying cramps. they went away for years, and then all of a sudden this year i am getting them again. its miserable. i have to start taking MIDOL as soon as i get any inkling im starting it. I keep doped up on them til its over. if i wait til the cramps start, the midol is useless.

ive tried everything warm baths, heaters, exercises, my cramps are just so awful.

i feel for ya chicky. try midol every day, as much as is allowed, and also, maybe dont use tampons> i find i cramp up worse when i have one in

Go to the gyno. It could be Endometriosis, or something else. I have the same problem. Over the counter pain meds simply do not work for me. Prescriptions do, but I don't have a car and my parents won't take me to the doctor, so that's out for me. I use weed. Just one or two hits gets rid of the pain and if I take more I can sleep. But I would suggest going to a doctor. She can tell you if something's seriously wrong, and treat it before it gets worse. If it's just cramps, she can prescribe some serious pain killer to help, or put you on the pill to regulate your period. Don't let your mom tell you it's not a big deal. If you're in pain, get it taken care of.

Your description says you're 19... can't you just make your own appointment?

Sometimes parents have control well after 18. It happens.

Same thing here...Bad cramps , throwing up..basically incapacitated for a week. Until I switched my bc to Yaz....it made my hormones more balanced and the pain less severe without me haveing to be on harmful narcotics. Not to sound like I sell the stuff, but it my saving grace for that time of the month.

I have sometimes worst periods than others, with throwing up, fainting, cramps... I usually take antispastic medicine.

I heard the cause of cramps may be something called 'endometriosis', or it may be a little hormonal unbalance...
You can try to get some natural medicines (made of all sorts of plants) for this problem, I take a few but I don't know their translation from Romanian into English... but you can get informed from any pharmacy selling such natural products.

Technically, you should start seeing a gyno at 18, esp if you're sexually active. Even if you aren't, 18 is what they recommend, so just make an appointment and use your age as an excuse if your parents question it. Have your parents given you an insurance card? Endometriosis is a serious condition, I'm surprised your parents haven't let you see a doctor.

Shit, I was having horrible cramps yesterday, and I don't usually get them. Except mine feel lower down...like my labia are about to dissolve and my cervix is going to prolapse. EEK!

Nix the green tea. Caffeine increases the symptoms of PMS. If you want tea try something without the caffeine and see if that helps.

    *******
For many women who suffer from the spasms and cramps commonly associated with PMS, Black haw, Kava kava, and chamomile brewed in a tea and strained have shown amazing results.

I had this same problem. For years I would just collapse when I got my period and spend the first 12 hours on the bathroom floor, vomiting and crying. My cramps were like contractions during childbirth, they came in waves just like that. Nothing helped.

When I had children that helped a little, but not much. I bled amounts that would frighten most people. Instead of pads, I had to use rolled up t-shirts and cloth diapers.

So, my doctor put me on the pill. And it made my periods a little less painful, but not lighter. I didn't vomit anymore. However, I later discovered that I had adenomyosis. The hormones in the pill had caused the tumors, or whatever you would call the uterine cells growing in other parts of my body, to grow more aggressively. The pill made it worse. (It also gave me a headache that lasted for 2 years. The day I stopped taking it, it went away. Dammit.)

So, if your period is that bad, throwing up, moaning on the floor bad, you need to go to the doctor. I had adenomyosis and I needed a hysterectomy. It's a serious condition.

Adenomyosis is like endometriosis, the difference is where the extra cells are growing. In endometriosis, they're growing in the uterine wall. In adenomyosis, they're growing there and outside of the uterus as well. It doesn't go away. Tell your mom that you really need to get checked out.

    I hope you feel better.

 How did they find out you had it? I came into this thread to say I had a similar experience and my doc put me on the pill and all was well... Should I worry now?
Sorry to the OP, not trying to hijack, but you've worried me a bit.

Stop talking Midol. The first time you stop will be painful but, Midol makes the next months craps worse. It has something to do with what Midol blocks. Since Midol blocks it your body makes more the next month. Then you have to take more Midol. If you stop taking Midol your body will make less and you will have less pain.
While you are having the cramps I recommend a hot pack made from a dish towel and a bag of rice. sew the towel in to a pouch and fill it with uncooked rice. You can microwave the pack as much as you need too. Also lie flat. I always wanted to curl up but it really feels better when you keep your body strait. Try lying on you stomach with the hot pack on your back.

I have really bad cramps either every month or every other month to the point where im physically sick and doubled in half....

First of all your mother is obviously so self-absorbed that she wont take you to the gyno b/c you think you have a problem.............. let her know it COULD be serious.. like others have said it could be endometriosis.... OR worse yet..... it could be a cyst on your ovary.... They are VERY treatable but if you dont catch them... they could rupture and it can be potentially fatal. If she STILL doesnt listen...... find a different way there.... planned parenthood i know will not release ANY information to parents no matter what your age, if you're worried about that.

For me...... I just have really heavy cramps and periods...... and the hormones in birth control pills/patch/shot send my system into a spin and intensifies everything so I dont use it. My old doctor refused to give me pain meds (muscle relaxers), even though they work for me, since i have a history of abusing drugs :/ but I will tell you..... a heating pad + excessive pot smoking and a muscle relaxer or two from my b/f and they're far less...... otherwise ill just take sleeping meds so i sleep through the worst parts of it..

But PLEASE get yourself checked out....... it could be something as simple as just heavy flow...... but it could also be something potentially dangerous

pamprin all the way for me. mine are wretched.

i've also noticed that my pms, which i used to have very mildly, is getting worse and worse. i've gotten to where i'm losing my freaking mind. i used to just be a little whiney, now i'm getting vicious and wating to scream my head off. i need to call my doctor to address this, because it's NEVER been like this.
