Why can you not legally be nude in public?

I mean, we ARE animals after all. We've got flesh, bones, blood and skin just like any other (or at least most other) animals out there.
Biologically, it's an undeniable fact! Yet, most people tend to think otherwise... mostly as an egotistical statement regarding how significant and important they must be, after all, look at the cities and the cars and the structures all around us!

But... in the end there's absolutely nothing wrong with our bare, naked skin. Everyone has genitals, half the human population shares the same set of genitals you have, and half the population doesn't... no secret.. no great mystery, so why hide what is obvious?

For those who have never felt the sun baking on your naked body... you don't realize how amazing it is to be naked outside! To feel the breeze through your body, to have the sweat drip off of you and not soak in cotton.

I know I'm preaching to the choir, but can someone enlighten me on why it is illegal?

I did not read what you post. I am just replying off the title. but it is because humans have a sex drive. stop for a moment and really think about it. the answer should be obvious

Its not illegal federally, only state wide, or locally. There are states and towns in america were there are no laws prohibiting nudity. If you had a lot of money and time to spend in court, i'm sure you could eventually go publicly nude in these places.

That does make sense actually... But I don't know if I totally agree with it in its entirety.

For instance, it is the case with Bonobo Chimps that they have the exact same sex drive as we do, but they constantly have sex with each other, but humans have a much stricter sexual practice. We have to raise children for up to 18 years of our lives, quite the commitment! Human couples tend to stay together (naturally, although this is debatable) on the sole purpose that they wish to raise their offspring, and thus sexuality becomes less of an issue for this very reason.

Therefor, much like doctors or the towel guys at saunas, or certain tribes we would become desensitized to body parts and thus our sexual drive would be null.

Ahhh, but why is this a breach of respect displaying your natural body parts? If you say "because it's gross" you have to take into account that you have been raised to believe this, this is not a natural opinion it is an opinion to which you have been conditioned to believe.

Or perhaps I misunderstood your argument entirely...

We only associate sex with nudity because we've been covering up for thousands of years. Go to a nudist beach and tell me there are (normal) people walking around with erections.

At this point in our society, wouldn't that be a good thing though?

We have overpopulation like mad, abortion rates are going down in the west (particularly America), and teens are having kids like rabbits.

I'm not speaking for BBAD, by any means, but I can see where he is coming from.

Regardless of our personal beliefs on it; the majority aren't in agreement. Children of such puritans seeing naked people about isn't quite fair to their way of life.

    1) Being nude doesn't mean people will constantly rape each other or will be constantly having sex. At a nude beach people aren't constantly having sex. Also, yes, males may be aroused often at first, but once a nude body is common place, they won't get sexually excited over it every time.

    2) Being nude may disrespect people, but first of all, that should change, and second of all, since when do we legalize respect? That's like putting you in jail by addressing me as "Cap" instead of "Mr. AndGown"

    3) I hope that pubic hair thing was a joke, if not, that makes as much sense as forcing us to wear hats so there's not scalp hair all over the place.

    4) Half the population has a penis, the other half likes the penis. Half the population has a vagina, the other half likes the vagina. Of course a small overlap.

    5) If you're disgusted by the sight of a nude human body, you're the one with the problem. Besides, even if you are disgusted, I'm disgusted with people vomiting, but vomiting in public isn't illegal.

    6) If you're worried about the children, why? First, what's it going to hurt them to see a penis or a vagina? You can't tell me they haven't seen one before, whether it be their own or that of their parents while they're bathing or showering.

    7) Sex =/= Nudity and Nudity =/= Sex

Respect isn't, but morals are; the majority sees clothes as a moral imperative, no matter how ridiculous that is. Same goes for drug-use, one that is easier to sneak about, but very risky.
It should change, but you have to change people's attitudes before you can change the law.
    It was clearly one.
I didn't say I was. This is going to be my only reply to you, because I've had walls pay better attention.

You're never going to get anyone to respect your views, when you can't even be respectful enough to listen to the opposing viewpoints.

Well it's not ilegal everywhere. I believe you can get away with public nudity in oregon but don't quote me on it. (I might be wrong.) But to answer your question about why it's generally ilegal to be nude in public you need to trace the laws back to their source.

Before the industrial revolution nudity was never a really that big of a deal. There was a without a doubt a certain amount of social heirarchy based on clothing. And the Judeo-Christian tradition tended to frown upon nudity due to its association with origional sin. But for the most part, people owned very few clothes and being naked in public just wasn't the stoning offense it is today.

But the invention of the cotton-ginny created havoc on society. The economy had to adapt as independant cloth and seamstresses were quickly put out of business as the rich, who were the primary buyers of clothing, jumped on the band wagon of the new trend. However, there quickly became a surplus of product as there were very few affluent members of society in contrast to the large masses of the relatively poor.

The english government of the epoque came to the rescue. In what would become a huge impact on english society and later most of the world as the influence of the empire spread; The first act of protectionism for an industry at the expense of the public occured.

Laws were passed that required that all people had to wear cloathing. Needless to say that for people that weren't used to owning more than 1 or 2 changes of clothes, these laws weren't overly popular or observed. So a program of "social engineering occured."

In exchange for privilages to land or other. Clergy were the first line of assault against nudity. The body became filthy and being naked was linked with sin and shame.

The wealthy did their part too. They flaunted their new clothes and mocked those that wore inferior handmade or hand-me-downs. Being known to own more than 2 changes of clothes became a statement of prestige.

The end result is that demand rose dramatically and within 10 years, we were left with the situation we currently have today.

    Hope that answers your question.

Did you really just ask that question?!!!! It's fucking common sense! I'm glad we have to wear clothes because there are some people I really do not want to see naked!
