Assuming that at the age of 16 a young Christian will start their working career and tithe 10% of thier income as Jesus told them to every Sunday until the age of 23, when they begin a higher paying job and start tithing 10% of their increased total income. Here's the breakdown of the figures: Ages 16 - 23 = 7 Years of Tithing assuming that your making $125 a week, probably working at McDonalds comes to a Tithing Total of $4,550 from just 10% of your income Ages 23 - 65 (Retirement) = 42 Years of Tithing assuming that your making $40,000 a year at a job you've hated since the age of 23 comes to a Tithign Total of $168,168 from just 10% of your income 65 - Death (Social Security) = Assuming you die at the National Average age of 76 years old, which means that for the last 11 years you've been donating...I mean tithing...your almost worthless Social Security check at 10% a year and praying to your "god" that the government gives you more than $1,500 this month, comes to a Tithing Total of $21,450 Which means that every "Good Christian" will pay their church and the man who stands up on a podium and lies to them EVERY Sunday a Total Of $194,168 So when you have an abortion your costing the Christian Church about $200,000 of it's hard earned money! No WONDER they hate abortion!!!
Well its not always just the church thats against it its also individual Chistians ,who dont see any of that money.
And there are Christians who are not against abortion so please do not lump them into one group. HEEEEEY!! IIIII'M BAAAACK! Miss me? lol
Even though a few select Christians are for abortion, they still continue to support an organization the "Church" that is aggressively against it. It's the same as a police officer who believes in freedom, but than arrests you for a $5 bag of weed
My mom and my sister and my brother-in-law are all Christian and pro-choice. They do not support those churches. I know many others like this. But anyway, let us look at the other Christians who do support the church and are pro-choice. This does not mean they support the church in the matter of abortions. It is like supporting a friend even if they make wrong choices. At least that is how I see it.
There are some churches (namely the Catholic church and evangelical churches) that are "aggressivley against abortion", but others (particularly mainline Protestant churches) that aren't. There is no longer a single "Church" on this issue. As for tithing, it began as a Hebrew practice dating back to the Old Testament book of Genesis. New Testament support for it is ambiguous, and some churches don't recognize it as an obligation. In two of the passages given as support for it in the New Testament, Jesus is criticizing people who practice it while ignoring justice and love. The Catholic church doesn't push it as much as evangelical churches, some of (mega churches)which require members to sign a contract.
It's like supporting a friend who's an alcoholic, going to their AA meetings with them, but than once every week buying them a 12 pack of beer.
I would have to disagree with that. It's more like you go to the AA meetings with them, pay for his rehab, then he goes back to drinking and can't afford anything else, so you loan him some money for food. If that makes any sense lol
LOL - You can loan him money for "food", but you know it's going to be spent for beer. Now you can say that it's not your responsibility because it was his choice to buy the alcohol, but it's a better idea to take him to dinner than to just give him "free money". If someone wants to donate to the church, that's their decision, but they shouldn't be guilted into giving up 10% of all their cash so they can get to a "heaven" that doesn't exist.
Apparently most of them aren't. According to Ronald Sider in Christianity Today,vol 11,#1,only 6% of evangelicals tithe.
My favorite are the groups who are anti abortion but pro death penalty. They can't even call themselves "Pro-Life" because they aren't. You know, white, southern democrat, baptist, racist, anti-semetic assholes who listen to Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly.
Those people are very few in numbers. A few weeks ago there were 3 men standing in front of the local post office/town hall and they were holding up anti-abortion signs, quotes from the Bible and such. I went up and asked them why they were against abortion and all they could say was what was on their signs: Quotes from the OT and things like "it kills another human and is wrong", etc. I asked them to elaborate and tried to give my point of view and they just kept interrupting me and saying "no, no no. It is wrong!" They got kind of pissed off but I knew they wouldn't do anything in front of the town hall with a bunch of people there. I stayed for about 25 minutes talking to them, or rather being interrupted by them. They were very close minded and brainwashed, but remember, they do not represent all Christians.
