I mean, i'm not sure why we do it. I know it's been involved in our culture for a long time but what is the point really. I see alot of my peers getting really drunk at parties and being silly. If they wanted to be silly couldnt they just...act silly, or just have fun anyways without it? Why do people drink it?

I don't know but I am totally wasted right now! I just had a bunch of martinis and it was fabulous.

But for me personally, I am extremely nervous around people, even people I am really close to and if I don't drink I literally can't be around groups without having a nervous attack. Sad, I know.

Also, I love the taste and the burn of alcohol

it lowers inhibitions and allows you to not care as much in some situations.. so you can be silly easier due to less social defense being held in place

Not necessarily I guess because I have to admit that I drink a lot when I am alone as well. I like to blame my Scottish genes, but probably I am just an alcoholic.

There is a difference between people enjoying alcohol and being an idiot and the life of the party.

I enjoy alcohol but do not enjoy the feeling of a buzz from it. The times that happened , the next day made it not worth it for me.

If my nose feels odd, time to stop. :)

I can totally agree with that Heat. I actually wish right now that I hadn't had so much to drink. I like to just have small amounts to maintain a feel of relaxation. But I frequently go too far because it tastes so good to me.

It feels good, it makes people seem prettier and more interesting, it tastes good, and it solves your problems.

    Why don't people drink more?

You actually summed it up pretty good Lode :)

Although I think it more makes ME feel prettier than make me think others are prettier

Alcohol is the best drug for lowering inhibition this side of ecstasy. Like antithesis said it relieves social anxiety, makes people seem more attractive, makes you usually more vocal and/or flirtacious etc. Also in regards to drinking alone it dims consciousness so you can forget about problems and what not. Its a terrible drug but its good at being terrible.

Alcohol uniquely enables us to take charge of impairing ourselves. This is a unique and valuable skill...

Same here! I feel totally normal and then all of a sudden. Bam!

I am planning on not drinking this summer but we will see if that happens.

    Why fight the good times?

If you can't handle yourself, discipline yourself. Otherwise, don't fight the fun yall.

    Drink!

It would just be sort of an experiment. When I am not working I plan on secluding myself and becoming a hermit. I want to also change all my behaviors, eating healthy, not smoking pot and not drinking. I just kinda want to see how I feel.

It defers loneliness till the next day (when it's much worse).

It gets you out of, "I want to be in a club, but I wouldn't be part of any which accepts me as a member" syndrome.

Good point and you're absolutely correct here... has me thinking that instead of changing their behavior, natural born fuck-ups adopt alcoholism as a convenient excuse to blame their inherent stupidity on.

Everyone here's saying the same thing.

They want to be around people, while feeling comfortable and entertaining. And when alone they want to feel relaxed.

Alcohol can't always provide this, but responsibly it does for most adults.
