This is something that's always cheesed me; why is it that at many work places it's a perfectly legitimate excuse to get up and go for a smoke break but one can't just get up and go for an "air break"? My old boss would allow me and the other workers who smoked to go for smoke breaks, though he wasn't always thrilled about it, he knew there wasn't much he could do as that's what smokers do. After I had quit smoking I tried a few times to just go outside for some air, just the same as though I was smoking. No such luck, I wasn't allowed. Another example; I can't remember what it was, but I was watching something on television once and a man gave the example of the obese and smokers. If someone is smoking near or around us, many will tell that person to either move or put it out. People have NO problem telling smokers how disgusting their habit is and how it's going to kill them. When I smoked I was told, since I've quit, I've told smokers. Yet one would never say to someone who is obese or morbidly obese, "Hey, you should quit eating. You know you're going to kill yourself don't you?" We as a society use soft language when dealing with certain subjects, then turn around and condemn others who have the same habits. If someone burns themselves on coffee they sue the place who made it. Anyone remember that very obese young woman who sued McDonalds because, "they made her obese?" And she won! They bought her out because they were afraid of getting a bad public image. You'd think the public would be intelligent enough to discern that the girl had fed herself the fucking food, no McDonalds employee stuffed the food down her throat. Why is it that we as a society reward, or are gentle towards stupidity?
obesity does affect society BBAD. there may not be a direct link between obesity and the death of others, like the link for second hand smmoking. but, it still has a negative effect on others. The obese are more likely to use (and abuse) the healthcare system, and everyone pays for it.
haha..thats funny next time you go to the hospital check out the waiting room..its always full of drug addicts and stupid moms who bring their kid in for every ache and pain
I know exactly what you mean The corporation I work for has a designated smoking area and I swear every time I look outside the window those same clowns are standing around smoking away half the day Hotwater
Because if your boss doesn't allow you to take an "air break" you put your head down, go back to work, and write a thread about it on hipforums. On the other hand, if your boss doesn't allow smokers to take smoke breaks, the probability of violence skyrockets.
that's a whole different subject and you know your're ignoring the fact that many "drug addicts" and moms do not have health insurance and the emrgency room is their only option.
not completely true. look at the tv show and movies jackass, those guys are not only celebnrity. they are handsomely paid to do painful and stupid things
McDonalds bought a fat woman. The highlight of this thread. And tobacco is a plant that is cure and smoked. Like marijuana. I don't know what the fuss is. Sure it's unhealthy, but for many people it doesn't particular change their enjoyment of smoking dried leaf. God, we're still trying to outlaw plants. Bullshit.
McDonalds here have a promo at the moment for the Mega Mac, with 4 meat instead of two. Made me realise I like Big Macs because of the sauce, not the meat, the meat tastes like shoe
What about those Angus Third Pounders, it prides itself for having angus beef..... uh but I've had plenty of angus before and none have as strong a spiced flavor. Seems like they inject that shit with some nasty grease.
people who fire themselves from canon and walked tightropes have never gone hungry..... they just the modern version...
Because you don't agree does not make it stupid. How much money do you think our health care system (that you and I pay into) goes towards treating the obese? Millions. Smokers as well. You can't split hairs here. I'm not referring to overweight people who are relatively healthy. I'm talking about obese people who rely on health care.
