If hair grows naturally...Why shave it?...Are we going against nature by shaving natural body hair...The only reason I occasionally shave and get my hair cut is because of societal norms...I think I would be much happier I could just let it all grow out.
I haven't got a haircut in years but I'd say people shave it because you experience it as handy, looks better (not only societal norm but also personal preference) or yes, because of pragmatic reasons relating to work etc. I am thinking of cutting my hair, get a short haircut but still doubt because gone is gone and I'm terribly unsure what kind of haircut I want. I'm pretty sure it is time to get a change. By the way, I don't think we are going against nature by cutting or shaving our hair.
I can only speak for myself...I shave (my legs) because I LOVE how it feels...like that commercial where Ashton Kutcher (when he was on the 70's show) says. For me, it just goes without discussing that arm pit hair is nasty nasty nasty. I still remember when I was a teenager and being really hairy early and wanting (almost desperately) to shave my legs; but, due to a very strange and old-fashioned mother, I was not allowed to do so. (I had to slip around and shave for at least several years before being officially allowed to do so.) All of that is just to say that I wanted to shave because I didn't like the hair I saw...and STILL feel that way. Now, I am in a cast (left foot to knee) and fully expect to look like a cave woman when getting the cast removed. At times I can actually FEEL the strong, resistant hair underneath this cast, and it hurts or stings or whatever like hell. THAT is the FIRST thing on my list of "things to take care of when I get home without a cast!" Perhaps some women (or men) don't want to shave and enjoy looking hairy (and for the most part quite unkempt)...as for me, the hair on my body has NOT diminished with age (as I've been told it "should" - lol), and I still detest seeing it as much now as I did 40 yrs ago. By the way, I also prefer my men to be either clean shaven or have NEAT, manicured beards. I can handle chest hair, but I'd have to really be in deep LUV to overlook back hair. (sorry, I have some shallow & superficial traits)
I can relate to this in a way. I usually go fuzzy in the winter(lazy) and if I put long johns on with the long leg hair it's kind of this annoying, rubbing the cat the wrong way, sort of sensation.
I fell down the last 2 steps of 13 steps going downstairs to the basement. (I'm trying to avoid saying I'm a klutz. ) I also had a big laundry basket in my arms, and couldn't see my feet. Even tho' I've walked those steps about a million times, it was the 1.000,001 time that got me...so, I broke 2 bones in my ankle. Now I'm the proud owner of 8 pieces of metal in my foot. (7 screws and 1 metal plate) and Manservant...I have to say that this is almost the most aggravating thing at this point about this hugely irritating thing. Those dang hard hairs being shifted the "wrong way". grrrr
I'm Tempted To Call You A Silly Old Fart, But Iv'e Had Two Falls In Two Days, Nothing Serious, But Still Enough To Cause Me Concern.... I Wish You A Speedy Recovery... Cheers Glen.
Some people just like the way it feels and looks, just like some people prefer hair. Seems like some of the people who prefer hair don't really like to keep an open mind to others' opinions, however.
Ummm why is underarm hair nasty? Not having a go, I genuinely would be interested in knowing why you or others think that way? I have no problem with people shaving what they want or leaving what they want. I leave most everything to grow - under arm hair included and it is far from nasty. No need to label something as 'nasty' because it goes against societal norms.:sunny: I think people look beautiful when then have choice on their side.
Personaiiy I prefer my women unshaven. Shaven women seem to be trying to look like preteen little girls. Gives the impression they seek to attract pedophiles. Creeps me out.
I personally FEEL gross if I'm in anyway 'hairy'. haha My boyfriend can do what he likes, he's not the most groomed of people, but me personally, having hair (apart from on my head, and brows and lashes of course) makes me feel gross.. I dont like the feel of it (on me), the LOOK of it (on me) .. I can't remember the last time I got shower and didn't shave... Sorry if thats T.M.I for some people haha, but seriously, i hate body hair on myself.
uh oh now lets wait for the people to come in and call you girls little teenagers like mr ranger up there
Poor Glen, dont they have zimmerframes in oz land? I'll send you one for christmas As for the original question, I dont think its in any way 'unnatural' to shave or cut hair, even though my preference is for unshaven and uncut. If cutting hair is unnatural, so too is cutting your toenails
