I'm taking my cat to finally be neutered this week and we live in a small town so there's only one vet's office....all others are atleast a 20 min drive. i dont really like this vets office, the front dest people are rude and NOT helpful and the vets are young and seem inexperianced.........anyway.....i was calling around for prices and everywhere i called was charging about $100 for the neutering EXCEPT for our vets office which only charges $36. Thirty six dollars! That seems really cheap. i've had cats neutered in the past and it was always around $100 so I'm wondering why this office does it so cheap. Its making me skeptical. I should be thrilled about it but something doesnt seem right about that.....i've never heard of a place that neuters that cheap (except for the charitable places that do it really cheapo to help the cause).........do you think there is some reason why they are so cheap about it? also, im not sure that they will give my cat pain meds after the sugery.....i feel that he should have them so if they arent willing to give them to him do you think thats a bad sign and that i should take him elsewhere? its hard to drive an extra 20 min tho with a cat in the car....beaker hates being in the car and i dont like to stress him out.
I'd consider asking them a lot of questions before the procedure...and following your gut instinct. That sounds really cheap to me too, and if they seem inexperienced, I would be tempted to find out what the scoop is. The use of pain meds not only keeps the pet from being in pain, but reduce the stress from the pain, and helps your pet heal faster....at least that is what I've been told...I do understand that you don't want to stress him out, but being in a lot pain is a stresser too...Ultimately you know yourself and your cat, and what is best for both of you. Good luck!!
i did have my dog lily spayed there because when i adopted her the spay was part of her adoption fee............she did well and healed very fast. one thing i DO like about this vets office is that they dont force their "fixed" animals to wear the e-collars unless they are biting at their stiches and alot of places puts the e collar on regardless (well i guess i could always just take it off)......i dont know, i really cant afford $100, im so deep in dept and that extra $40 difference could help out but i think im going to push for pain meds and if they refuse then i will just have to take him somewhere else. thanks sus.....
