are so many people in the USA so uptight about religion? CBC just played "The Little Drummer Boy" [one of those old puppet movies]. CBC is our governemnt TV station, and if this happened down there I bet there would be some big hooplah about how it is unconstitutional... We have DG on our money standing for Dei Gratia. Our national anthem says God a few times [and even references the Son] but you don't here big controversies about how it is wrong and we have to change it...We aren't debating Evolution and Creationism, the debate over same-sex marrige wasn't over whether or not they should, but over the word "marrige" This is a problem for more than just one group [meaning it isn't only Athiests complaining about things, but Theists too] down there too, any one care to fill me in...
man, i was just watchin' something on whatever barbara waters is on about heaven in the media or something. it was strange.
yeah well abc is doing a barbara walters special about heaven and this one guy freaking pissed off i had to turn it off... they had people on there saying that if didnt believe in their religion then you go to hell.... why does religion have to be so unaccepting...
Haha "Heaven: Where is it, and how do you get there?"--worst name for a TV show ever... See, but that is also on a private statiopn, and they are trying to be inclusive [got the conservative Christians, the Dali Lama etc.] but why are people so afraid of religion? Peopel always throw the seperation of church and state in the argument, but the Baptist churches in the 19th Century wanted that so that the government couldnt legalize their faith. For many it was to protect religion, not government...
its just described as such a bad place and its been put into my life by my parents for my whole life.....its hard to break free of forced religion even though i dont believe a lot of things about it
The most religion I had "pushed" on me was celebrating Christmas and Easter, these childrens books of bible stories [i loved Noah's ark cause the animals ] And in 1997 I was given a New Testament [with psalms and proverbs] at a public school, so I can't really relate to the whole "forced religion" thing My question wasn't really a "personal choice" thing though, but more of a culture thing, it seems to me that the culture of religion is differnet then here...
when i was in third grade, i remember my friend asking "you're christian, right?" and i (being raised as an agnostic, and not being told who jesus or god are..) said "yes, of course." why? cause the way it was always talked to me about by people (not my parents) was that i was either a good person (christian) or a bad person (not). same thing has happened all my life. i've had my best friend say to me "now all we need to do is get you to go to church so you'll be a good person". she seriously said that out loud to me. i think thats what causes the problems. a lot of the religions are teaching "we're right and everyone else is wrong. which means they aren't good in god's eyes". i might have gotten off topic there a little.. i tend to ramble when discussing things like religion. i believe in spirituality. not religion.
i think all religion should be choice, whether accepting it or not and with your own choice you still are your own individual just now with a different mindset and spirituality does that make sense?
In my opinion religion is something that divides. A divided society is no means to a peaceful, open-minded, nonjudgmental environment. At the same time however, I spent most days at the hospital and have witnessed, again in my opinion, faith doing extraordinary things. I don’t so much think its ones faith in a religion or belief system as to that of the faith they process for themselves and those surrounding them.
Exactly. Religion divides society and drives a wedge between those that believe and those that do not....and some of those that do accept religion believe they are high and mighty, and therefore are allowed to look down their noses at those who don't conform to their religion.
the same goes for atheists...a lot of them are condescending and plain rude to those that believe in a certain religion.
so you do believe in it then? if you dont believe hell exists, how can you possibly go there, a place that doesnt exist?
You have to think beyond this world though. You shouldn't just say you don't believe in something just because it's inconvienient now. And just because you don't believe something dosn't make it go away. And this "seperation of church and state bullshit" is not part of the constitution; freedom of religion is.
