Snorre Valen, a 26-year-old legislator from Norway's Socialist Left Party, has nominated WikiLeaks for the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize, because its disclosures of classified documents promote world peace by holding governments accountable for their actions. "I think it is important to raise a debate about freedom of expression and that truth is always the first casualty in war," Valen said. "WikiLeaks wants to make governments accountable for their actions and that contributes to peace." http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/02/02/wikileaks-nobel-peace-prize_n_817558.html
Far out, that's pretty cool It's also a big "fuck you" to all the governments that were pissed off with what wikileaks was doing. If it does get the Peace Prize I think a lot of people might turn on and finally see things differently once they take note.
that prize has been getting irrelevant in the past years, its interesting to see some (even tho minor) changes coming about ...particularly with the voices of people on the street getting stronger, shaking establishments and provoking thoughts
A lot of ppl get nominated, like hundreds. Easy to get nominated, hard to win. So if they do win it, it would be a huge acknowledgment that Wikileaks is on the right side of history.
Wikileaks should definitely get one, unlike Obama. Honestly, he didn't deserve his at all, and it was just for show, really.
Yep Wikileaks should get one. Brad Manning should to, I think that would help him out a lot. What did Obama do anyway to get his??
When I was back in school, I vaguely remember my history teacher saying that it was due to Obama doing some negotiations between countries or something like that and others hadn't. Lame excuse, really. And Obama's a puppet, anyway. No doubt.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/8298580.stm Obama's Nobel win: Full citation The following is the text of the official announcement that US President Barack Obama has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize: The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided that the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009 is to be awarded to President Barack Obama for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and co-operation between peoples. The Committee has attached special importance to Obama's vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons. Obama has as president created a new climate in international politics. Multilateral diplomacy has regained a central position, with emphasis on the role that the United Nations and other international institutions can play. Dialogue and negotiations are preferred as instruments for resolving even the most difficult international conflicts. The vision of a world free from nuclear arms has powerfully stimulated disarmament and arms control negotiations. Thanks to Obama's initiative, the USA is now playing a more constructive role in meeting the great climatic challenges the world is confronting. Democracy and human rights are to be strengthened. Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future. His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population. For 108 years, the Norwegian Nobel Committee has sought to stimulate precisely that international policy and those attitudes for which Obama is now the world's leading spokesman. The Committee endorses Obama's appeal that "Now is the time for all of us to take our share of responsibility for a global response to global challenges".
Yawn, as I said lame excuse. Way overwritten. The human rights thing is a joke. So is "the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population".
after reading this, i'd say it shouldve been jointly awarded to Bush-Obama as this is an example of one fuckin everything up, and someone (having a good speech-writer) speaking words about how it was wrong
