Before you try to tell me that ship sailed many years ago, consider recent events. At a time when Ariel Sharon suffers a stroke and puts the Israeli government into a transitional state, Hamas wins the Palastinian election. Now supporters of Fatah are rioting in the street! I'm concerned that things could spiral out of control, and not just in Israel but well beyond its borders. On the other hand, giving Hamas some real political power might be just what is necessary to get them to seek more peaceful, diplomatic solutions. Hey, it worked (somewhat) with Yassir Arafat! Whaddaya think?
Still watching this all play out on the News as Palestinians are in something of a 'Civil War' (Politically speaking) over what went down over HAMAS being voted in. I think the shock of 'what did we just do' is sinking in now and there is crazy shit being said and talked about everywhere at this moment. Without a doubt shit is hitting the fan already.. lets just see how much and how badly it blows back in their faces. Stupid stupid stupid move people. Just senseless.
Unfortunately the Jews will fall into the trap of stalling a West Bank withdrawal, because nobody demands or expects them to negotiate with Hamas. Stalling is a trap? Every day of Arab and even Muslim bitterness towards the Jews is a day closer to Israel's bitter end. It's inevitable, Israel is so small. Eventually some bitter Arab or Muslim group will assemble and detonate from smuggled parts the five small nuclear weapons sufficient to instantly incinerate tiny Israel. Jews, Arabs and even Muslims are trapped together by the psycho-dynamic chains of Identity. Primates in a competitive social hierarchy such as civilization are Identity driven. Groups, whose Identity becomes unattractive by the humiliation of defeat, are driven by an uncontrollable desire to get even. Even if it means that a million Palistinians die along with the five million Jews. The dynamic impulse is too powerful. You can see the dynamic at work with the switch from Nationalist Fatah to the Religious Hamas, and the same Nationalist to Fundamentalist switching across the whole Muslim world. It's all Identity driven. You can even see that same desperate dynamic of Identity at work amongst the original Zionists whose Euro-centric delusions hatched this mediterranian death-trap.
What could be more useful to US/Isreal than civil war in Plaestine? A perfect occasion for Big Brother to step in and take control. Funny how things always seem to work out in favour of the US/Isreal, aint it? Question for me is, why would a popularly & democratically voted government be violently opposed? Puppets and Strings. Puppets & Strings.
Bush is always going on about "freedom" and "Democracy." Except when it gets people into office he doesn't agree with. Then it is "terrorism." The people in Palestine made their choice. That's Democracy. Their voter's turn out was better than in this country (the USA) let them run the government the way they want. IMO, both they and Israel should be left to their own devices.
Is there evidence, beyond Bushian propaganda that this will happen? Palestinians throw rocks at Israli tanks, Nukes? I don't know.
Shit - has already hit the fan. Only this time, it's difficult to back Israel up after it has been stealing water from the Palestinians and driving the people off their land with settlements, not to mention the government is displaced with an interim leader and requires international help more than ever at this crucial moment. The Palestinians have elected a terrorist government (IMO) democratically, and by their own people. Delivering aid to the Palestinians is one thing, but dragging other faith-based nations into their cause and call for the destruction of Israel is batshit insane.
Bush called for the destrution of Iraq, Afganistan and eventually Iran and North Korea. Is there a difference?
destruction of Iraq? A coup d'etat perhaps. Yes. There is a large difference. Invasions, hostile take-overs and genocide is very different then assisting a government to stabilize the country from insurgents. EDIT: Bush recognises Iraq as a state, with its own sovereignty. The newly elected Hamas Palestinian government does not recognise Israel as a sovereign state.
Palestine commited genocide? When and where? If anything, they were the recipients of genocide. Who assisted what goverment to "stablize?" The US hostilely invaded Iraq and commited quite a bit of it's own genocide.
The Hamas government has no regrets committing genocide of innocent Israelis. That is what I am saying. EDIT: ie. They have explicitly called for the destruction of Israel. Bush never wanted to slaughter innocent Iraqis. He wanted a regime change. The Hamas government wants Israelis to die.
Palistinians are constantly martyring themselves as suicide bombers. If you were a suicide bomber, would you rather blow yourself up while only killing a handful of the enemy, or would you rather the sacrifice of your life eliminated all of your enemy. I think if you were a suicide bomber, you'ld chose the later option if you could. And it's only a matter of time before they'll figure out they can. Mr. Bush is only accelerating this dangerous alienation of the Palistinians and the Arab-Muslim World.
Is Islamic democracy any more of a threat to Israel and the West than Islamic dictatorship? That, when you boil it down, is the question. Are we better off with the people that won the elections in Iraq and Turkey and Lebanon and Palestine, or are we better off with the House of Saud, Bashar Assad, Saddam Hussein, and what happened in Iran after the fall of the Shah?
Hamas' victory is the result of the votes of the Palestinian people. They voted. Elections have consequences. They now get the government that they chose. They have no one to blame (or to praise) for what happens now but themselves. When their country stays a hellhole, it will only be their fault. It won't be the fault of Yasser Arafat. It won't be the fault of some US-backed despot. It will be their own fault. Moreover, if they are lucky, they will get to keep voting until they get it right. And, eventually, someone will get it right.
And what is "right" aristartle? a gov which bends over and subjugates itself to final humiliation of the Zionists who never once wavered from Herzl and Weizmann's blueprint for Greater Israel regardless of the multitudes who inhabited the land for centuries? I suggest you go and study the truth of the conflict and not the truncated santitised versions of modern text books and mainstream media. Start by informing yourself of the terrorist origins successive Israel leaders (hailed as statesmen despite their atrocious pasts) like Ben Gurion, Begin, Rabin, and Sharon (to name a few). If the Palestinians continue in deprivation and isolation it will be because of the generations long collusion between Washington and Tel Aviv and their machinations to dehumanise and ethnically purge Palestine to advance an apartheid state mired to this day in 19th century colonialist ideology.
and you're thinkin the west has gotten it right after all this time ? lickherish has covered the other bits ..it'd be interestin to read your thoughts some more
Harsh as reality itself. Yet it's through the innocence of young opinions that we're able to see so clearly the un-guarded predjudices absorbed by Western Youth.
