It's been an all day job but the rehersal/recording studio is finally complete, including: 3 amps (1 Fender 15CD, 1 Marshall MG15 CDR, 1 Carlsbro 65Watt Lead Amplifier) 2 microphones (1 Savoy MP 202, 1 Hiatchi MP 505) 2 guitars (1 Yamaha Pasifica 112, 1 Tanglewood TW28 ST-USA, [1 Fender Stratocaster or Dean Icon on the way]) 4 stands an effects processor (Digitech RP 80) a drum kit (Peavey: Bass, Snare, Hi-hat, Crash, Floor. Middle. and Treble Toms) a 4 track recorder (FD-4) not to mention at least 25 square feet floor space. The main deal was tidying that room, it was the most cluttered room in the house and now it's the tidiest. Seriously when I say cluttered I mean we used 11 BIG bags to clear it out. Anyway, we've got a trail with a new bassist now. Our old one left because he likes heavy metal and doesn't like indy and we like indy and don't like heavy metal. He was a good bassist so this is a bit of a blow really. Well I say good, he was the fastest learner you'll ever find - tell him to do something and he'll do it perfectly but he never deserved any song-writing credits. The new girl is apparent one of the bass bassists you'll find (think flea from the red hot chilly peppers or Noel Redding from the Jimi Hendrix experience and that's some idea of what she's capable of). Thing is I've only ever heard her play funk which is some of the hardest stuff to play on bass so as far as technical skill goes there's no worry. However stylistically there could be a problem. Other possible problems are whether or not she'll get on with the drummer; whether or not she'll make it to rehersals regularly (she lives some way away). It'll be a bit odd working with a girl, especially since working with Steve. I am really excited and really nervous at the same time. (On another note, when talking to a friend who I met whilst working in a music shop, the first thing he asked when I told him I was working with a girl bassist was "Oh right, how big are her tits" I responded by telling him that I'm not allowed to go there seeing as her boyfriend sits behind me in tutor. "No" he replied "it's ok to look, as long as you don't touch." ) I'll let you know how it goes. Sebbi
that sounds fantastic! i would kill to have a recording studio like that... at my buddys place where my band comes together, he's got a nice drum set up, an organ, and many amps ta boot (which arent his...but they come and go). No recording equipment, sadly. Sounds like things are going well, keep us updated!
I'm not really that keen on computer set ups. I prefer it just to plug in and go. Besides can you can't take a compy between rehersal studios so easily. Anyway, we're getting 2 new mikes, an 8 track mixer and some mike stands tomorrow. That'll make things very nice. T'went pretty well as far as first rehersals go anyway. I was a bit worried because our drummer is quite a shy guy, and our prospective bassist is also quite shy. The first rehersal with Steve and Chris was so awkward because neither of them talked for the whole 4 hours and I was a bit worried of a repeat. Chris recently has been a lot more outgoing with me but I thought that was just because I got to know him better. I thought he'd be really inhibited but it turns out he's actually been generally coming out of his shell recently. He was really lively today. Anyway, it was pretty awkward with the new girl today both as a person and as a musician but then again it never (rarely) clicks into place during the first rehersal. We were doing a bit of improvising though, which was great fun and something I've been dying to do ever since I learned to play the blues. But that was just me and her, no Chris. Ah well it'll take a while to tune in to a mutual frequency (not literally of course, that's what a guitar tuner is for and that takes about 2 minutes to tune up with, not a few week/months, musically it's timing we need to get right). I'll keep you posted. Sebbi
yeah my bands having a hard time getting set up, one of my amps is messed up it keeps making a fuzz sound and so does my nicer guitar , i need a computar for my midi controller. one of the bassests bass sucks balls so he needs a new one, our other bassest is still waiting for his amp he orderd like three months ago which got put on back order. the drummer keep spending his money on stupied shit like new cds and movies he spend 300$ in the last 5 months on crap and hes out of money for a drum set ,also we dont know how everyone will get along with him, he is the youngest and most inexperenced he also lives realy realy far away, our singer quit drugs the rest of us are pretty hardcore with drugs the other singer/bassest is a opiate addict and smoke pot daily, the drummer is a stoner and drinks also like pills a little, im into trying new drugs, our singer i dont think is going to stick with the band he kind of seems off doing his own stuff him and his girl friend are getting pretty serious. and worst of all we are short a guitarest
