I'm very illiterate when it comes to computer-related stuff so bare with me.. Anyhow, I'm having a problem with my laptop as it won't connect to the wireless network. The network isn't the problem as my old laptop's wireless is working fine, and I can also get online on the new one when the internet cable is plugged in. It's weird especially as it was sort of working before, not perfectly (meaning that sometimes it would connect, sometimes not) but working anyway. But now it's not working at all. And I'm totally clueless. I have a windows vista, and I use AVG and spybot - search & destroy as protection if that helps Soo any ideas guys?
KozmicBlue, I will try to help. It can be complicated but hopefully it is just a simple usage error. Can you give me any other info about the wifi network (the wifi router settings/configuration)? 1. Router brand/model 2. Wireless SSID (the wifi network name) 3. Encryption type (password; WEP, WPA, etc) 4. Anything in the router configuration that might have been changed from the factory settings. Also. Do you know what type of wifi card you have in your laptop? Was anything changed since the laptop stopped working (installed programs, reinstalled Windows, updates, drivers, etc)? It may very well be that the wifi in the laptop works perfectly fine but you just haven't selected the proper SSID to connect to. Do you know how to select a SSID (wifi network by name)?
1. Reset the router (a small button in the back, use a toothpick) 2. In windows XP/Vista do the following: Windows key + r, type cmd, type the following: ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew (note the space __ after ipconfig)
