So I read in the paper that they're in the process of building a multi-million dollar museum about Woodstock(and its circumstances). It sounded very cool with Imac type footage of the concert and lots of videos to see. But is spending all that money worth it? Discuss. were all the pepsi sponsored woodstock reunions worth it? with bands that had none of the spirit of the original? the answer is its worth it to sell out for the tourist trade if they make the $ back into the local economy but are they tryig to presserve the heritage of woodstock? highly doubtful, since the 1 time i did go to one of the reunions (the year before pepsi took it over) they had bulldozers & cops with rifles at the entrences to the original site blocking off access so if the question is, is it worth it to us? highly doubtfull.. but if its is it worth it to the local tourist trade..well then that remains to be seen
Yeah, just the idea of spending so much money to build a museum honoring a FREE-concert seemed really dumb. And I'm sure all the hippies at woodstock would much rather have that money used for something a little more usefull for humanity.
I totally support it. I think woodstock was a pivotal moment in America's counterculture, and it should be remembered accurately without corporate sponsors. We use far too much money in our national budget to finance memorials of war. Why not throw a little bit toward how an unprecedented amount of young people came together for peace, love, and music in the midst of the turbulent sixties.
I was checking one of my senator's voting records and one of the votes was about taking $1 million of the money earmarked for the Woodstock museum and giving it for healthcare for pregnant women. I was kind of surprised by even the existence of the fund. I went and copied this from my senator's voting record page: On the Motion to Table S.Amdt. 3321 to S.Amdt. 3325 to H.R. 3043 (Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2008) To provide additional care for pregnant women, mothers, and infants by eliminating a $1,000,000 earmark for a museum dedicated to Woodstock.
Anything with the words 'multi-million dollar' in them can't be in the true woodstock/hippie spirit. Healthcare is a much better destination for all that money, indeed.

pregnant women's healthcare? seems like a worthy cause. sounds like bullshit though. However I think that about almost anything I hear come from a politicians mouth nowadays. Why not take a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of our "defense" spending and give it to pregnant healthcare. More reproduction = little future soldiers to fight a war that will inevitably continue for the next 20 years.
