Tell the truth.. it makes life SOOO much more simple.

no more stories to keep straight.

and then, if people dont like you... at least you know you can love and respect yourself and it's then their lose.

Someone told me that once, not to lie. I can't remember his name. Uh, oh yeah ... Kant. His reasons were a little different though. He was a little more worried about the categorical imperative than he was about keeping stories straight and loving himself.

    Good advice nonetheless.

well i used to lie about certain things too much and ive learned.

the last thing i will ever try to do anymore is lie.... unless it's to be nice to someone. like about dumb shit like "am i fat?" lol

What's the point of being other than yourself? Even if it gets more people to like you they do not really like you. But then, who's to say they wouldn't if you were yourself?

So true. But try and get everyone else to play along. But maybe things will change.
I get really upset when my kids lie to me or in a relationship.
I'm pretty easy to be honest with and when they do it upsets me.
Like you end up saying to them...why weren't you just straght with me etc.
    good thread! Peace

yeah i lied about some major things. and to people that love me and surprizingly they still love me.

made me realize how silly it all was.

i think sometimes people like outta fear but that is no way to deal with fear :)

Remember, it's not the clothes that make them look fat...it's the fat that makes them look fat.

Theres no reason to lie. If someone asks you something and you don't have a reply that you think will satisfy the question, don't split second thought it and give some bullshit...because it'll always come back later on and you'll have to cover...

Plus you'll feel like ass when you get busted.

    good words, logical.

everyone lies. those who say they dont are lying :p

but lying makes you feel cheap and worthless. it feels so good just to tell the truth.

sometimes you can get away with lying, and thats cool so i find it best to always lie
cause no matter waht they tell you the sentence is never any better if you tell the truth in the first place

Suppose a man with a gun enters my house looking to kill my brother and my brother runs out of the house to hide.

Suppose I know for certain that this man will kill my brother at the next clear opportunity and that the field around my house denies my brother a good place to hide.

Suppose, also, that my brother is on crutches and can not outrun the man with the gun.

Suppose, now, that the man with the gun asks me to tell him where my brother has gone.

Would I have reason to lie?

    Not at all.

Unassemble the man before he kills your brother. That is basic family law. If you do not know how to, learn...immediately.

Fine fine. Second situation. Suppositions same as the first but this time suppose that the man can not be disarmed by any means whatsoever, and any attempt to do so will result in the death of you, your mother, and baby sister. No attempt will succeed.

In this situation do you have reason to lie?

In saying there can be reason to lie you have disregarded four of the most powerful words ever spoken.

"Act only according to that maxim by which you can at the same time will that it should become a universal law."

That is like twelve words, but whatever.

Hmm, deep question. Can we lie?

    Words of wisdom, certainly.

A 'bluff' may be in order in this situation.

As always no matter how good you think you are there is always somebody just a bit better unless you've got some fancy plaques on your wall to prove them otherwise.

I'd recommend going back in time and killing the assailant's grandfather, to avoid the situation altogether.

i was going to make a thread about lying too, then saw this one... i agree, and i think i have a problem... grrr i like to "omit things" that i know others wouldn't like. it's frustrating, half the time i'm one person and the other half i'm another...

i think i'm going to take your advice and not lie anymore. better to be myself and if they dont' like it, then oh well....

    thanks for posting this

Patrick I have to say I totally agree with you on that. If you aren't true to yourself then what's to say that the people even really like you?
