We are a conjoined land, we should get along.. have you ever taken a moment to think what it would be like without our prescence.. There are no laws that have been tested which allow your bases here because protesters get their heads cracked open with batons and people who try to get rid of the bases legally are harrassed and made to look insane or dangerous in the press and on tv Sorry but the last time I looked there must have been at least 6,000 miles of ocean and whole way of thinking that is between the USA and Britain. Unfortunately for us, a lot of corrupt politicians took money from your corrupt politicians and created a hell on earth across the uk similar to parts of New York and other American cities. The aim in current modern British thinking is that if Britain drops the USA as a friend we might be more productive in terms of social wellbeing even though we would be worse off financially. Very well said This is something that I've realised as I've grown older, however it did take me quite a while. You cannot blame everyone from a whole nation for things that a small amount of people (government, dictator or whatever) actually have control over.

There's a very long list of countries America has entered without their permission. Actually I don't, in general, have a problem with American bases here, beyond my ongoing objection to British and American involvement in Iraq and the role said bases play in it. However to talk of freedoms in the way that you do somehow seems a little blinkered in light of the overall impact of American foreign policy in the modern world. I certainly don't hate a whole people for their government. However I do question anyone who holds an abstract notion of freedom to be that government's net impact on the world....
The truth is, Americans are busy trying to deny their own fellow Americans their rights and freedoms... I'm in favor of a withdrawal of military bases from Britain. At the very least, America should be paying taxes or rent to use those facilities.
