i posted this in another thread, too. but i need help so as many responses as i can get would be awesome! so here's the situation. i just started my freshman year in college. and i'm a huge huge music addict. i try to buy most of my music, but i'll admit that most of the stuff i have is from downloading. i download because i don't want to buy anything unless i know its going to be great. the problem is... the college i'm at makes you install their own security sweet, and you can't change the firewalls without a password. i've tried to download the 3 main p2p programs i know about, but each time the firewall catches them. so here's what i need help with... does anyone know how i can 1)get around the firewalls? 2)give the tech people a good excuse as to why i need to disable the firewall, or 3)get a program that will have plenty of music without messing with the firewalls at all? i realize some people may tell me that i should pay for my music and use a site like itunes. but to be honest, i have no money and that just isn't an option right now. but i still desperatly need music!
Ahhhh.. I know where you're coming from. I had the same problem in 1st year university.. none of the major P2Ps would work. HOWEVER, these two guys in rez started a private DC++ network for people who live on campus (a couple thousand) so everyone could download from and upload to everyone else. You should seek out some computer whiz and ask him/her to set something similar up. Any true computer geek will know how to get around a firewall.. it's just finding one that can be difficult.
i'm actually having the same problem at my new apartment. and my little sister can't even get her programs like Windows to work. damn colleges!
and torrents wouldn't get caught by the firewall? whats a good site or whatever? sorrry kids. i swear i'm not this big of a dunce normally i promise!
