Considering that about 95% of old growth forest have been destroyed, in the u.s., in the last 100 years, what's left should be saved for its enviromental, scientific, educational, recreational, national heritage, etc. value, rather then chopped, sold, and turned into someones new hot tub deck. http://www.savetheredwoods.org/
Something everybody can do about global climate change. Plant trees-lots of them. Makes the world a nicer place.
i want to build a tree house. but before i do that, i plan to mpve to south america, then ill plant about 300 trees over a two year period then make my tree house in the middle of the rain forest. we should create a day thats called hug a tree day (besides earth day) and get all your friends to do so.
We really don't need any more conifers! We need to chop loads down and grow more ash, oak and hazel! Conifers are pretty much ecologically useless
Well at college we have 2 woodland areas. One is mostly conifers, planted in 1956. The other was clear felled and planted with locally native species. The conifer woodland has next to no ground flora, the other has loads.
conifers make their own ecosystem, with reciprocal relationships with trees like aspen (close cousin to birch). It's acidic and discourages a lot of undergrowth, in theory. Non native species have taken root or been planted and messed up that part of the circle. If conifers are not native, then, yeah, plant your native trees. Where I live almost all the native trees are evergreens, from the very endangered lodgepole pines to Ponderosa.
That's right. Without trees, being one of our biggest givers of O2, we die off. GO TREES! Don't forget to give them a daily hug
So do I!! lol, Ive always dreamed of finding a gigantic tree holowing a small part of it out while still keeping the tre alive and then just widdling all my furnature out of the wood, lol...
It brings tears to my eyes knowing the lodgepole pines may be almost completely killed off by the pine beetles possibly in as little as 5 years here in Colorado.
yep. Man we could use a deep freeze! I'm wondering if DNR will get smart and plant some in the Hayman burn area, and other recent fire areas.
We've got mostly conifers around our place, but they're not quite natural, used to be oaks and maples and such, till my parents decided to change things forty years ago. I wish there were more aspen (my favorite), but the slope of the land is North facing. Aspen don't seem to like that, they usually go for southern slopes. Hug a tree, feel it hug you back.
What about the air quality, with no trees left, and as for saving the forests, it's going to take more than a handful of sisters blocking the logging trucks in OR. In Northern, Ca., they're shooting at us now, and there are plenty of horror stories from the activists. Some of these forest rapers should be in prison, NO JOKE. LINDA
