There are pros and cons to everything, including littering. No need to waste time judging someone.

I used to own a vacant lot, and I had to haul off huge amounts of litter every summer. People would throw things out while I was standing there watching!

No I already understand that I will never understand.

Just one of the many pros of littering.

I don't see the big deal. I got more important things to worry about.

Could be worse. The area not too far from me is plagued with drive-by shootings. I'd rather deal with things like litter.

The area I've been in has slid. There were nice places such as malls and parks at first. But then people littered, shoplifted (literally wheeled clothes carts right out of the mall), stole cars from the parking lot, harassed shoppers, etc. Some of these places are now vacant with some broken windows left behind. Businesses and the more responsible people relocated, tax revenue fell, and the situation deteriorated.

One could argue that there were advantages. In the short run, people engaging in that type of behavior got something for nothing and were doing pretty good.

There are probably some advantages to paintballing someone's nice new sports car also, and the owner shouldn't be judgmental about it.

Irrespective of judging people, a neighborhood is shaped by people's behaviors.

For those who get arrested for things like shoplifting and littering, part of the sentence can be community service such as picking up all the litter. So, there are advantages I guess. :)

Much depends on the nature of the people. Drive through a wealthier neighborhood and you see signs like $1000 fine for littering. In a lower end neighborhood it says $50 fine for littering.

Or, like the comedian Gallagher used to say, go ahead and dump your garbage. It's ok. There are signs that say 'fine for littering'. :)

Climbing up flights of stairs just to litter seams silly though. That's a case of working to create litter.
