Did you know, interracial marriage was outlawed in my state Michigan for the first couple of decades of the 19th century. But then they repealed the statute in 1883. And we were the first to outlaw the death penalty, never having it as a state. And Michigan troops were the first to arrive to fight in the Civil War.
