"Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed."
I always found that line by Thomas Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence touching and it resonated with me by HS because I thought it was so true by then. That is why I guess I was always a rule utilitarian at heart and not an act one. Like when I first found about that moral system in 1994 and with that book. But like I eventually found out people like Mahatma Gandhi pointed out sometimes you have to break the rules, passively at least, when they are very wrong and do more harm. But it's sad that after HS people spent most of that time trying to convince me I was a bad person. It's a good thing that I never listened to them or believed them. Because I think sometimes that's what really turns people into bad people. When they listen to all the people who say they are evil. Especially when the people who say that are the often ones that is more true of.
